Connected last night and got all my items back online.

28.64Mbps down, 11.14Mbps up is what im getting atm.

Will check what my phone cabling is tonight before calling in someone to remove the 2nd line to the bedroom, I want to see what wall cabling has been used first as the house was built in 1994. But im guessing any speed increase from cleaning up the in home line would be pretty minor.

In the My Aussie portal I was poking around and saw these details on my connection.

Attainable Rate 32.4 Mbps down, 11.6 Mbps up
Current Sync Rate 31.2 Mbps down, 11.9 Mbps up
Loop Attenuation Average 83.3 dB down, N/A dB up
Noise Margin Average 7.0 dB down, 6.6 dB up

DSL Mode - VDSL2
Estimated Distance to Node 1029m

Looks like they connected me to the actual node and not the micro node that was only approx 300m from the house.

That's what's holding the speed back. That's a long way from a node.

Yep :melt:
Bit annoying considering there is a micro node 300m from the house.

I had speeds like you at the start. I doubled my speed by removing all splits in the house. I'm ~900m from node

$ 11,016 inc. GST

We may very well have to get new lines run as back in PMG days the main line that was put in now runs through 3 properties to serve 5 after various sub-divisions were carried out over the years.

One of the property owners is trying to convince NBN / other property owners that we should get new connections from the street (so he can remove 2 old pits on his property). Fortunately I had conduits / pits laid when we upgraded our electricity lines, however, I don't think we should be responsible for the costs, it's NBN's infrastructure after all.

Of course, being done so long ago their records don't even show where the lines run.
I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way!

My NBN is toast for the 3rd time. Last time the NCD appeared to have been fried by a short in the pit. Looks like the same again. Tech won't be out until Tuesday :(

The device still powered on ok, it just couldn't establish reverse power to the pit. A guy was out this morning to do a neighbours for the same issue and came in to do mine as well which was handy. He said there's nothing I can do on my side to try to prevent it. Sounds like it's a common issue with the NCD's and they just replace them. Didn't check the pit or anything like that, just swapped the box.

Got my phone line replaced today.
Went from 27/11 to 46/13.

Happy with that considering NBNco/ABB has my Attainable Rate at 32.5 Mbps and I'm 1k from the node...

So I've been on HFC and had 100/40 from the get go. Then they downgraded the plan to a 100/20 for pricing reasons. I just checked last night and noticed I had the top tier option of 1000/50.

Image

HFC is not a bad technology as far as I can see it.

What does that cost petey? The only thing I can think of is an issue with HFC is if a lot of people in the same neighbourhood are sharing it. I expect that may have been addressed judging by your numbers. Although you are some way off 1000.

I upgraded the router today as i suspect the old one was not quite up to handling the task of all the devices we have connected and the speed. At this stage they make no promises on any technology to reach 1000mbps all day everyday. It's basically a minimum 250mbps and anything past is a bonus.

That being said the highest I have seen is 900~ and at peak time such as now, mind you with 5 people here using it is-

Image

Price through AussieBB is $149 a month.

The interesting thing to me, is the CVC Graph of my local connection shows that at peak hour they only run with about 300mbps head room. So does that mean they will be bumping that up due to my new connection? If I intentionally saturate the line at peak hour and force the numbers up supposedly they will keep adding the headroom because that happens automatically apparently.

I think Docsis 3.1 has a lot of wiggle room for saturation but I honestly don't understand the technology so you probably know more than me.

Wow really, whats happening to them? what tech you on?

Telstra fucked me over and swapped me over to 100/20 from the 100/40 plan I had, charged me $25 extra per month for the privilege.

I swapped over to superloop, took 5min to happen and now im on 1000/50 for the same price, get that speed all day.. might drop to 800/50 in peak

Strongly recommended, feel free to use my referral ;)

FTTC. The NCD is an NBN supplied device that sits in your house and feeds power back to the pit. Always seem to go when it's raining so maybe there's a short somewhere but the tech's always say there's nothing to be done about it
