Re: 2012 - 2013 Summer of Cricket
Listening to ABC Grandstand yesterday afternoon, even the commentators were bored to the point of not calling the action some overs.

We use to get cricket on ABC TV in the country and as a kid it use to be boring then we got the nine coverage. I miss it now days as nine's coverage so pumped full of ad's and promo's.

What an epic game of cricket!
Kudos to the Proteas. Good effort to hang on.

I was glued to the screen in the last hour. Du Plessis did a superb job keeping them in.
Shame the rest of the day was a bit dull but it had to for an ending like that.

Ponting is retiring after the Perth test. In a way I'm glad he's going on his terms rather than being pushed. Hope he makes a ton now and goes out on a high but I feel he's form may not allow this.

Re: 2012 - 2013 Summer of Cricket
I have no doubt he is being pushed, but being given the dignity of making it look otherwise.
In all reality, he should not be playing in Perth but he has earnt the right to equal the Test appearance record.

Re: 2012 - 2013 Summer of Cricket
I do agree based on form he shouldn't be there as others have been dumped like Khawaja and Quiney. No doubt there's been a shit load of pressure on him being asked by the media constantly "when will you retire?" Was it go now or be pushed? Who know's. I have no doubt the question has been asked internally.

The ABC commentators were saying at the end of the last Test that the selectors would give him the deal, "we'll pick you for Perth if you announce that it's your last Test".
As Jiminee says, I doubt he's going willingly.

Re: 2012 - 2013 Summer of Cricket
I just cant imagine his ego being happy with only tying Steve Waugh's record. The chance to break it in Hobart would of been ideal for him to but not to be.
All for the best the way it has worked out I reckon.

Where's Norbs? Great news, it's a shame he didn't go earlier so he could be remembered more for the great batsman that he was.

Odds of this being correct – 1000000000 to 1.
Mark Taylor declaring over night to not go past Bradman's highest score I can believe, Ricky Ponting volunteering to not break this record I have a somewhat harder time digesting.

Dead right Jiminee. As if Punter wouldn't chase a record!
And just when I get the good news that the barnacle Ponting is shuffling off, they bring back Johnson.

Re: 2012 - 2013 Summer of Cricket
With Watson playing and bowling (and taking a wicket) he is worth a risk. He goes well at the WACA, there is no one else really pressing a claim with Harris, Cummins, Pattinson, Siddle, Hilfenhaus being rested/repaired/ineffective.
They have to win and have not taken 20 wickets in the first two tests and he COULD destroy them so have a gamble hey? Could be crap, if he is don't bowl him.
He has to be a better option than yet another right arm, back of a length, big hearted trier!

I didnt see yesterdays play. I just turned it on the computer when I got back from a bike ride. Saw Ponting get a standing ovation and not long after he was gone.

yeah me too. Pity his father is doing all he can to screw over 75% of Tasmanian football fans.norbs wrote:To keep you sister rooters in check, I think Wade is the real deal.Hazelb wrote:Hmmm..likely story...
and I dont think your bias is anti Tasmanian. Hell even I dont rate Scheissenhaus as a front line bowler. But you dont have any love for the 2nd best cricketer this country has ever seen.
loved Boony though
