I know there is all sorts of guidance and well trained pilots, but I would be shitting 9 shades of brown if I was in that plane.

wow, yeah I would be crazy nervous too! I hope he eventually got down ok, I mean, looked like he was landing pretty deep in the runway... I'm sure it would have been fine!

Reminds me of when I went to Singapore for the GP... sure, we were in the SA A380, but man it was right in an afternoon deluge and the plane was still getting thrown around a heap.

I'm here now, but that was an experience!

Awesome!!!

I believe they carry the nose so as to use the wing as a huge speed brake.

A lot of modern fighters do similar, the F-16 is one that comes to mind.

World War One Planes flex! Here's some video (part 3 of a 5-part video - takeoff occurs at about 3 minutes) of a replica Albatross D3, with a go-pro attached to a strut. if you can stave off the sea-sickness its a nice flight over the Austrian Alps.

However, the amount of flex in this thing means the vision is weird.

That's an Oeffag built Albatross - the Austrian version. You can tell by the lack of spinner and the rounded cowling. The markings suggest an aircraft of Flik 51J, Ghirano Airfield, summer, 1918. It might have been flown by Franz Rudorfer. Here's something about the build:

That anti-shake software has its limitations. On a vid like this, I'd rather see it turned off. Yes, it would vibrate lots but it wouldn't make you sick!

It's mostly to do with the way GoPros work. They don't record a frame at a time, rather they record line by line.

From memory, most TV pictures are recorded that way.

Limitation of the frame rate.

But nice video none the less.

What limitation? My GoPro does that whether it's in 60 FPS or 24.

It's definitely not frame rate. It's a combination of what Exar and JD have said. The sensor on the camera reads from top to bottom which means as things move quickly, like left to right, you get a jello effect.

http://www.redsharknews.com/technology/ ... -explained" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You get it with any camera that has a rolling shutter. Higher end cameras have what is called a global shutter which takes a "picture" of the whole sensor to make up a frame.

The vid above is suffering from the rolling shutter but also someone has chucked a very basic stabilising filter on it and it turns out all kinds of nasty. New versions of premiere and after effects actually have a filter that attempts to compensate for rolling shutter, but it's like trying to unscramble an egg when the vision is as bad as the above.

Just spent a bit of time watching this... some fantastic shots in it, and no idea how he's got so connected as to get out airside, and in a chopper!

Thanks Scottie, I sat and watched all of that too. I could watch planes take off and land all day.

The pilot in that preview frame of the second clip was in my class at school. He did the belly landing that was caught on TV a number of years back.
