My new/secondhand car
I've been planning on buying this car for 12 months & finally picked it up last night.
It's a 2003, fully optioned RX8 with 9,800 k's & was owned by a friend of mine in his mid 60's who fell in love with it when they came out but was very concerned about putting kilometres on it & decided it just didn't fit well with him.
I've never been a massive rotary fan although my dad had a Capella when I was a boy that was totally mad & this car is a gem.
Can't wait to take it for a decent drive.

Re: My new/secondhand car
9800kms!!! Wow - must be like new! Have fun dude. By my reading they have a fantastic chassis but the engine needs a fair bit to get going. Enjoy winding it out to that enormous redline! Certainly a car that does its own thing and the early top spec versions were much better looking than the later GTs with the tacked on bits in my opinion.

Tidy.
Keep the oil up to it and it'll be fine.

Re: My new/secondhand car
Thanks guys.
Yeah I don't think I'll be towing anything with it anytime soon the torque is pretty average. It does have plenty of get up & go in the higher rev range.
Thanks for the advice VT, I'll do that.

That looks like a really good buy. How much is this thing costs? And how does it drive?
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

I paid 20 for it, my friend bought it for 67ysu wrote:That looks like a really good buy. How much is this thing costs? And how does it drive?
It has the leather pack & the Bose sound system which sounds fantastic.
The ride is probably a little on the harsh side but it is a sports car I guess......I love it.

Re: My new/secondhand car
awesome stuff
I have only sat in one of these in a Mazda dealership a few years ago, never driven one
Would love it if you found an excuse to do a bit of a photoshoot with it (women optional) Some will not like the colour I imagine. I love it.

I was lucky enough in 2006-2007 to have the opportunity to punt various Mazdas around Mallala, Oran Park, QR, Broadford & Symmons Plains. The RX-8 was always nicely balanced and fun to drive at pace, and it's always fun to rev an engine above 9k.

Re: My new/secondhand car
I scouted out what I think will make a nice background the other day & I hope to do a proper shoot of the car in about three weeks time.Bauer wrote: Would love it if you found an excuse to do a bit of a photoshoot with it (women optional) Some will not like the colour I imagine. I love it.
Unfortunately it's unlikely that women will be involved. I always like that shot of the girl in the g-string leaning in through the window with one leg bent but I'm pretty sure that would be frowned upon.
Yeah I like the over the top bright colours on sports cars. I've always thought that the proper colour for a Porsche would be lime green, bright orange or light blue.
Wow that sounds awesome!! It really is a great little car.VTRacing wrote:I was lucky enough in 2006-2007 to have the opportunity to punt various Mazdas around Mallala, Oran Park, QR, Broadford & Symmons Plains. I'm sure I won't be driving it in anger....I'm a little past that these days but it's nice to know that I could.

Re: My new/secondhand car
I got around to photographing my car on Wednesday night.
Not without hiccups...I left part of my lighting gear at home & had to go back to get it which cost me an hour.
So this isn't really the shot I had planned but I like it well enough.

my thoughts, exactly. I reckon a bit less photoshop would be better on this oneShaun wrote: looks like a render

Re: My new/secondhand car
Actually it's not manipulated much at all, other than it being 29 separately lit images stitched together.ysu wrote:my thoughts, exactly. I reckon a bit less photoshop would be better on this oneShaun wrote: looks like a render

Luckily I'm really only concerned with pleasing myself.

Haha, probably not.pab wrote:

Edit: Ok to put my meaning into better words……this shot is more about lighting than photoshop.
It may seem that 29 images is a lot but that amount is fairly common for a shot such as this.
After saying that, I could achieve something similar to this with far fewer shots & as my camera is capable of merging 9 photos together on output I could get a shot very similar to this straight out of camera.
It might not be to YSU’s taste but photoshop isn’t what created this image.

Don't get me wrong, your portrait shots are usually fantastic, speedo-man. And this shot is very nice too, I'd be happy to be able to create something like this - it just seems a bit over-done, that's all
Just have fun pleasing yourself...I'm off to tblop, too

Re: My new/secondhand car
Thanks Ysu.
For anyone interested, this is a video of the shoot I styled mine on. https://vimeo.com/55595610" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
My photo is nowhere near the quality of Tim Bjorn's but I'm pretty happy with it.
After Ysu's comment I'm interested to see what I can get directly out of camera with zero photoshop. If I get the chance I might have a go in the next few weeks.
