Re: Sony Xperia Z (Was rugged smartphone)
Just got, (today) X3 Compact.
MY Activa finally died, but even the compact seems pretty big in my pocket.
But the screen is fantastic, and so many apps work on it compared to the old one.

Yeah I'm loving mine so far,
Great size, battery lasts between 4-5 days depending on how much I use it...
The only frustration is there isn't a link to mute or get a quiet sound profile in the notification tray... but I'm sure there's an app for that!

Its the z3. And I Rough on phones I admit that. But being in my pocket as I'm walking around, sitting in chairs shouldn't bend it so bad of fucks both glad pretty badly
Also if you get a crack it a z3 screen it becomes useless. The screen stops responding. I'm using nexus 5 atm which is smashed to hell and it's working...

I honestly think you're asking a lot if you expect that, even if a phone is stated as rugged.
Also not sure the manufacturers claim it is recommended either although they probably don't say either way to protect themselves from warranty claims & subsequent ridicule.

Yeah, its so unreasonable of me to expect a phone to not bend and destroy itself in my pocket.

So let me ask to clarify, when you say it's in your pocket when sitting in chairs, I take that as you're sitting on your phone?NeilPearson wrote:Yeah, its so unreasonable of me to expect a phone to not bend and destroy itself in my pocket.
If not I'll take it back but if so I doubt you would sit on a tablet or LCD screen & see it survive to tell the tale...

Re: Sony Xperia Z (Was rugged smartphone)
Best phone ive owned.... it was rugged for a while but after replacing the screen after dropping it from height without any protection and costing me $300 to get fixed (yep righto, silly me)... It fell out of my pocket 2 weeks later from a foot of the ground with a cover on and protective glass and got a tiny crack in the bottom corner still, rendering it useless again. Fuck this shit im out!

Re: Sony Xperia Z (Was rugged smartphone)
Yeah its ridiculous, especially considering the repair costs. I actually dropped mine numerous times without a problem at first which is why I became complacent and thought it was rugged. I was fooled!

New record, 4 days 4 hours on a charge. 2.5 hours on the phone. Not a lot else apart from that.

back in hospital.
2nd Sony to fuck up during an update. Talked to a Telstra tech this arvo who says it is a Telstra issue. Apparently if you put a plain Android ROM on the phone, it isnt an issue. FFS.

What went wrong with it? My daughter and I both have the Z3 compact c/- Telstra and have put the update on. Is it something obvious?norbs wrote:Talked to a Telstra tech this arvo who says it is a Telstra issue. Apparently if you put a plain Android ROM on the phone, it isnt an issue. FFS.

Well mine was doing an update via Sony PC companion and it just failed. It was really hot too. Top 1/3 of the screen is not responsive to touch anymore.

Just took delivery of the Z5 Compact - pretty impressed with it so far. The camera is excellent and heaps better than the one on the Nexus 5.

Re: Sony Xperia Z (Was rugged smartphone)
I too just got a Z5 compact. Finally got my number transferred from my previous employer (took 8 months due to hopelessness at their end) so when I saw the shattered back (which happened in the case) on my Z3 compact when the new sim was to go in, I said screw it, I need a new phone. Z5 compact doesn't have the glass back, so it should be more robust (though agree with Neil - they are no longer a rugged phone).
reasonable plan with plenty of data and calls, but the bonus is this nice handset. Recommended.

Re: Sony Xperia Z (Was rugged smartphone)
Bugger norbs, right now is a tough choice, ZTE Axon 7 has me intrigued and looks to be great value for the price point, Google's new phones are due to be announced either this or next month, but that doesn't help you if you don't have something to tie you over till then.
