I'll probably do the same as all the lightroom releases... download it, try it out for a bit and realise I'm more productive using Bridge and ACR. I'm guessing it's great once you get used to it, but I know those programs far too well to necessitate any change.

I'm happy with LR4 and the upgrade is only 50 quid or so. I might go for it but I think my PC will need an update first.

Happy with Lightroom 3 and also think my PC would need beefing up before transferring to anything else ... also a hassle to download and sort out. Obviously not if you actually buy it, but you know ...

Me too. Wouldn't mind a copy for the Mac.

I bought Lightroom 5 yesterday as I've been using the beta for a while & I reckon it will probably be the last one before it's only available on Cloud which I'm not keen about.
In my opinion it's the best version yet.

There really isn't a great deal of difference between Bridge & Lightroom but the LR user interface is much more friendly once you've forced yourself to learn how to use it.
It really is much more efficient if you have a lot of images to sort through.

I've tried to force myself a few times. I just end up going back to bridge/ACR because I know it so well.

I never learned to get the best from Bridge and found Lightroom a breeze to learn, and massively quicker than what I had been doing previously ... as is the case with Photoshop, I'm aware that I probably only use LR3 to a tenth of its full capacity.

I barely touch photoshop, if I can avoid it I will. I think most photographers would be similar.

I might try and give Lightroom another go.... Again.

I just installed Lightroom 5. All my photos are on my NAS. What's the best way to sort this out? I can't find anywhere to browse on my network. Do I have to import everything??

You have to import photos into Lightroom to view them & make adjustments.

I would reckon you would be best to just import your future work or anything that you feel needs readdressing.
I generally remove stuff from my library once I've finished with it.....probably not the recommended thing but it works for me.

We dropped gymnastics this year so I don't even backup my library anymore.....backups can use a shitload of room if you don't keep on top of them.

But importing doesn't duplicate a file and start filling my PC's Drive does it? Surely there's a way to browse my NAS and edit them. I can't even find how to import files from my NAS.

Importing doesn't duplicate anything at all.
You should be able to browse for the location of your images. From the "Library" module (top right), click "Import" (bottom left) then "Select Source" (top left)

Ahhh cool. Yeah I think i've got it now. was just worried it was going to start making massive files etc that take up my HDD, which kinda defeats the point of having everything on a NAS.

It's a bit hard to see in the pic, but where I circled at the top is the important bit... you want to ADD photos, not copy or move. "Add" will just add them to the catalogue without duplicating them. The other important thing is to check your LR catalogue backup folder fairly regularly and delete some of the old backups. If you're going to import a heap of stuff into LR (and it sounds like you are), your backups will be quite big and it doesn't take too long for that folder to blow out to several GB.
