BMX
So, the kids are doing BMX. Both of them.
A local group has pump track and skate park practice alternating weeks. I had my 29er with me for the pump track, but it's of no use in a skate park Like any good parent, I'd rather participate than get bored with the other moms and dads standing by the side, meaning it looks like I might have to get me a BMX bike (and for the kids next year).
There's only two problems with that, namely I know just about nothing about BMX bikes and I'm not that interested on racing or breaking my bones doing skate park tricks - so I'd like to spend the least amount of money; for now just something I can use to roll around following the kids and perhaps even work up a sweat so it could be used as a form of exercise. I'm thinking 20 inch wheels, 21 inch top tube racing type BMX ?
Any pointers ? Any brands with good price-performance point. What to avoid ? Where to shop in Europe ?
Yes, I have the ER phone number on speed dial.

LOL.
I did a similar thing when I started taking the kids to the skate park, but with a skateboard!
I was going pretty good until I stacked it pretty hard. Now I just sit and watch with the other adults!!
Good luck with the ER.

Re: BMX
How tall are you markus?
21" TT is probably the shortest you want to go, look for a 21.25" or even a 21.5" depending how tall you are.
I'm 6'2" and raced up until 2004, my frames where either XL or XXL size so varied between 21.5 & 21.75" TT from memory.
Also maybe consider a Cruiser BMX, they have 24" wheels so are slightly easier to handle than a 20".
Any known name brand of BMX is good these days. Go with a street / dirt bike for what you intend to use it for.

Re: BMX
Yeah a Cruiser like Flinty said or a 26" Dirt Jump/ Park MTB would be great for that kind of stuff. A 20" with age brings insane soreness..lol. I recently bought my DJ bike for $350 second hand and gave it a quick paint job. They are the kind of bike you can have confidence in buying 2nd hand as they are super basic with little amount of moving parts to catch you out. I'd never buy a 2nd hand Dual Suspension bike. But one of these babies, go nuts. Pick one up cheap, then completely rebuild it for your piece of mind.
Mind you, I seperated my shoulder the night after I bought mine..lol. I was Dirt Jumping it though, if you can contain yourself to pump tracks (which are the best fun and great for fitness and bike skill), then you'll be right.

Re: BMX
Yeah I rode bmx right up until I was probably 21. I can't ride the things now without being very sore the next day, even on an oversized frame. I'm 6'2" and 100kg, my frame just does not like a bmx one bit lol. But yeah, it all comes down to what you feel comfortable on.

Had a look at crc bmx section, I'm glad the bmx bikes are quite cheap compared to my other bike types.

It's amazing when in your teens you could do a wheelie for like forever. Now. lol.Flinty72 wrote:and a mega endo!CLP wrote:and a wicked skid!Hz-Lab wrote:Do a wheelie!
Also, I can do bunny hops better with the road bike than with the bmx I guess practice (and speedplay pedals) helps.
