Just came across this:

http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/lg-5 ... plasma-tv/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's bigger, has all the new LG smart features but in a plasma. Just need to check out the picture in a store :)

Well the missus is convinced we only need a 42", I guess she's used to dealing with smaller things lol.

So just getting up to 50" will be a task, she'd freak if I suggested 60 :)

Yeah girls always say the same I've found (tv wise ;p), wait a month or two then they agree the bigger telly was the better option.

What size is it now? ...your tele that is. I find my 50" a bit small these days. You get used to what ever you have very fast.

42". We are in a tiny unit, and 2m from the screen.

Had a look at it in store and have been scouring the reviews. The blacks aren't very good but the colours are excellent but I think once it's at home rather than next to a $3000 unit it will look fine. I think this one is the go.

If you really are that close, a 42 would be fine.

It's probably also up to what you do on it. Games require you to see details, watching tv, not so much. A 50" to watch TV is perfect in nearly any room size. Gaming...you need to be close (max 3-4m) to see everything properly. In fact I'd say that's just proving the point tv is not meant for gaming. Gaming is best done at the desk.
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Plasma will be dead in a couple of years.

OLED TVs are just emerging and 4K is already in the market with prices starting to become competitive. In a couple of years we should start seeing OLED 4Ks in the shops in large numbers and plasma will be a memory. LED/LCD will be around for a while yet at the cheaper end of the market and 1080 screens will be the minimum.

Meanwhile, the manufacturers will be getting rid of their remaindered stock. There's no reason not to buy one. I'm just interested to see how the market is changing.

Vilante I have the 50PM6700, seems like the 50PH6700 you're looking at is the newest version with more features, not sure if the panel is the same or not. I don't regret for an instant buying mine, as you say maybe not quite as good as other brands but for the price you can't go wrong. I paid about $1,200 for mine around 18 months ago
I'm also in a small unit, lounge is 4x4m and I sit about 2m from the screen, the size seemed a bit extravagant when I first got it home but now I'd never settle for anything smaller.

4K teles are flopping big time... thats why the prices are dropping so rapidly. They look great with 4k content... but there's barely any around. It's just a bit too soon. everyones still just getting used to bluray.

Blu-ray upscaled to 4K is pretty impressive but I take your point about sales.

If you're a resolution whore then 4K will still be what you'd want.

Shit that's a good deal. I'd be very interested if they had a deal on the 60".
