Bike Insurance

Post by Shonky »

Hey blokes,

I couldn't really find much on here so I thought it was best to ask, has anyone taken out bicycle insurance, is it worth the money, or do most just add it on the home and contents insurance?

I did a quick quote through the Cycling Australia website and $25 a month covers the bike at $3k and $500 for the Garmin which seems reasonable I guess.

Thoughts?

I don't have any specific insurance on my bikes.. I probably should though.

I was considering using Cyclecover ( http://www.cyclecover.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ), though I think you need to get your contents insurance through them as well. One upside to them is that you don't need to take your bike anywhere to get a valuation as some policies require (FYI: we have 11 bikes in this house.. it'd be an effort to take each of them to get valued!) . They also cover for racing damage, which is important to me.

If you do go for some insurance, check under what conditions they cover you for. Some say "no racing" but then go on to define racing as including some of the big community rides.

I'd be keen to hear details of who you go for if you go down that path..
