Can not wait for the next season, and the rule changes.

Was a bit of a snoozefest again. Maybe next year when the regulations open up it'll be more interesting.

Necro thread revival but thought this news was worth posting...

Former Sauber, Ferrari and Williams driver Felipe Massa secures 2018/19 Formula E debut with the Venturi Formula E Team, embarking on a 3-year contract in the electric series...

Having walked away from Formula One racing at the end of 2017 with 11 Grand Prix victories, 41 podiums and over 1000 points during his 16-year stay in Grand Prix racing, Brazilian driver Felipe Massa has begun the next chapter of his illustrious career in the all electric Formula E championship with the Venturi Formula E team, having at the age of 37 signed a three year deal to drive in the series from the start of the 2018/19 season.

Although embarking on a totally new form of motorsport following his long stay in the top flight of open wheel racing, Massa could find the playing field levelled slightly thanks to the debut of the dramatic new Gen2 car coinciding with his first Formula E race, something the super experienced Brazilian is hopeful of working to his advantage as he looks to challenge at the front of the field from the start of his new adventure:

“I’m very happy to be joining the VENTURI Formula E Team and the Formula E championship, which has become a magnificent competition in such a short space of time. For some years now, I’ve been clear about my interest in this innovative, forward-looking discipline that’s developing exponentially. I especially like the format of race meetings, the city-centre circuits and the contact with the fans. I can’t wait to take part in testing at the end of the month. Gildo has always been a step ahead when it comes to high performance electricity vehicles. The team is in a phase of growth and development. I’ll do everything I can to contribute to the project and hopefully I’ll be among the front runners”

With DTM Audi driver Edoardo Mortara and 32-year-old Mercedes GT driver Maro Engel currently employed by Venturi in Formula E this season, it remains who will be set to make way for Massa at the end of the year as the fourth year Formula E team continue to hunt for their first victory in the competitive electric open wheel racing series.

Have they released any viewing figures for FE?
It still doesn't float my boat and the odd bit that I've caught on TV looks pretty devoid of spectators.

I've been watching all the races this season. Some of the rounds did seem to have a decent number of spectators, like the Paris race. But with some of the earlier ones there didn't seem to be many people. To me it sounded like they used fake applause in the broadcast at the end of the race for the first couple races.

I think it'll keep going as long as there's strong manufacturer interest.

I just can't get excited by Formula E. They race on small tracks to make them look quicker and despite the odd crash it's just not seat of the pants stuff.

Oh dear.

It's the first race of the second generation of FE this weekend. I might see if I can track down some coverage and see what's new. I know the cars have been beefed up and they've done away with the daft car swapping, so that's all good.

Just about to start on Eurosport. There are more people on the grid than in the stand!
Seems to be no atmosphere at all. It's deathly quiet on the grid.

Nope, it's just not doing it for me.

It's in the middle of nowhere, there's hardly anyone in the stands, the track layout is awful and in fact the tarmac on it looks shocking. The lack of noise just doesn't help to portray the speed.

I switched over to watch the football about 1/3rd of the way through, just flicked back to see the end and the race had finished, the world feed was showing footage of people leaving (great choice!) and they hadn't even had the podium ceremony yet.

I had to fix our shower so forgot about the race but did watch the highlights this evening. The cars do look more impressive so that's one major issue that's been addressed to some extent.

The atmosphere and lack of crowds is hardly surprising. Saudi Arabia is an absolutely insane place to host it. Yeah, let's put on a motorsport event while, a few miles away, we're currently torturing the women who campaigned for their basic right to drive a car.

While some series have turned to sims to fill the downtime, Formula E have sponsored a marble racing channel to make a series
