Load capacity!

Now that I have the attention of all you dirty fucks, I have a question.

There is some talk of getting rid of the beloved VY wagon and replacing it with a van. *gasp*

Yes, well, it isnt for me. The brides little side business, selling fancy cushions, is kicking goals and she needs something bigger.

What I want to know is the load capacity of the 2004 VY wagon. So we can compare with things like the iLoad and Berlingo etc etc.

Any clues?

The Sportwagon, unlike the previous VZ wagon, which shared its long-wheelbase with the Statesman/Caprice is built on the same short-wheelbase platform as the sedan. This shift in thinking means cargo capacity is reduced from VZ's 1,402 litres (370 US gal) to 895 litres (236 US gal) but the sedan's near 50:50 weight distribution is retained.

The maximum luggage compartment weight of the Lotus I borrowed over the holidays was 50kg. And only if it was all securely tethered!

There's all sorts of ways of measuring the cargo volume. Most wagons it's up to the sill line of the windows but with vans not having any windows (or they're just not relevant) I'm not sure what they'd quote?

You could always go for a weekend test drive, and well fill it up and compare.

I think the Berlingo would be heaps, but it doesnt look that big.

get an iLoad. They come with pedo doors. Also handy for carpet layers apparently

Remember they'll only be measuring to the window sills in the Commodore whereas the Berlingo and other commercials will be to the roof with those figures. So the actual volume difference won't be that great. But it'll certainly be more accessible and usable in the commercials.

Doing some rough measurements myself, I got 1.88cm for the wagon with the seats down.

My iload had the barrier but it's still 2.7m long, 1.4m wide and almost 1.5m high. Not sure what that is in cubic metres so I asked Nige, he said it's 20,874 cubic kilometres.

Maybe the official numbers are conservative.

I think they are designed to get 2 pallets in them. I'm measuring from wall to wall, maybe the official people do it from inside the wheel arches.
