Pod coffee...

Our work has bought two of those Nespresso machines. I am not a fan of capsule machines, but I'm thinking of trying it out as a way to save a bunch of money (I have 3 cups per day at a cost of $9.90 per day!). You have to buy your own capsules. so, the question is, which non-Nespresso capsules will fit in the machine and hopefully taste better than a Nescafe product?

There's a huge thread on Whirlpool about this you could trawl through, can't help more than that as I don't have the Nescafe machine but you might be able to find some good info in it.

Lay off the coffee. You do not need it, repeat after me; you do not need it.
(and the saved ~$2,500/year can buy you some nice toys :D )

dunno what cack is, but when I've tried pod coffee it wasn't half bad. I've bought far worse in cafes.

Forget Nespresso, way overpriced & from what I've heard not that great tasting either.

However I love my cheap Aldi Expressi pod machine. It's way better then instant for around the house but nothing beats a proper Barristo / Expresso machine made coffee.
But then you have to spend $1,000's on a Saeco or DeLonghi Expresso machine...

The aldi stuff is remarkably good for something that should not be.

Cack = Excrement. Bloody horrid this stuff.

Gloria Jeans is a remarkable. It's like they sat down in a meeting and the agenda was. 'How do we take on those dastardly Americans (Starbucks) at their own game?'
"I know!!! We make our coffee worse!" someone pipes up.
"Genius!" sang the chorus.

Ive had an aldi machine since they first came out two or three years ago, its really good.. it became the work horse of the office and broke down after a year.. got another one thats still going strong.
Recently started working from home and my GF owns a Nespresso one, I found the Vanilla flavored one to be amazing so have been buying those..

I only have short blacks/Mac's so im fairly snobbish when it comes to coffee, took me a lot of goes to find the pod's I like.. I also buy coffee's most day.. but im a 3-4 cups a day person :)

This has veered off-tangent a little. Recap - my work has bought a couple of Nespresso machines. I'm looking for recommendations for non-Nespresso (hate that company) capsules that might be tolerable and compatible with the Nespresso machine. :p

If I'm not mistaken "Nespresso" & therefore Nespresso pods are proprietary so I don't think there is another brand that is compatible with the machine...

And in my case I'm pointing out that the machine is indeed compatible with the nearest rubbish bin.

@Flinty - yes, but several makers have produced capsules that will fit it - apparently Piazza D'Oro are one such. If I use this thing, I have no plans to buy into the Nescafe nonsense by buying from them.

@Jamo - that's my starting position, but I want to give it a try to see if I can bear using it to make my coffee at 50c a cup, rather than $3.30.

yeah Ive used the Piazza D'Oro ones, they are decent too.. took me a few goes to find the ones i like... apparently it will "void your warranty" if they find you using a non offical pod.. but who yeah good luck proving that

Do you need the frothy milk Smiss? (God that sounds wrong)

If not, have you thought about a plunger with good ground coffee?

I did that at Telstra. In the end I got a bigger one for the 2 other blokes that always wanted coffee when I had it brewing on my desk. Made it damn cheap (profitable) when I charged them $1 per cup. :)

We have a new office fitout and things like desk plungers are frowned upon. I'm a flat white fella, so don't require the frothy milk. I bought some Piazza D'oro coffee pods from Coles - "Superiore" type so I assume that meant good. Tried it this morning. Flavour wasn't 'cack' but wasn't as good as the cafe I usually go to. I will try it some more...

How ironic, just saw this on FB: Caffeottavo Australia. No idea what they are like though.

Only thing is you have to order the damn things online. free shipping at $65 or over - which means about 110 pods!
