My CPU is cooled by a Corsair H100i and you wouldn't even know the thing is turned on!

Yeah, my H80i is similarly quiet - especially since it has replaced the case exhaust fanGizmo wrote:My CPU is cooled by a Corsair H100i and you wouldn't even know the thing is turned on!
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

When the fans are quiet mode then yes, put them on performance mode or max rpm and the stock fans are quite noisy. Wished I put a pair of the AF120's on the rad when I installed it.Gizmo wrote:My CPU is cooled by a Corsair H100i and you wouldn't even know the thing is turned on!

Re: Another PC build thread
It's not hard to do after the fact. Even when i'm gaming mine is quite. I've left them in normal mode where the fanspeed changes based on the temp. On a hot summers day the spin alittle faster but for the most part they stay at pretty low RPM. There isn't any need to have the at max rpm all the time.KNAPPO wrote:When the fans are quiet mode then yes, put them on performance mode or max rpm and the stock fans are quite noisy. Or barely anytime - the H100i is incredibly powerful. As I said, even the h80i is perfectly capable of dealing with my CPU. It never needs to spin up to the levels it'd become a problem.Gizmo wrote:It's not hard to do after the fact. Even when i'm gaming mine is quite. Re: Another PC build thread
Just thought I'd update this... Looking to buy tomorrow.
The list is looking like this:
Intel Core i7 4790. $339
Gigabyte ga-z97x-ud5h-bk $229
Gigabyte Radeon R9-280x 3GB $329
G.skill Sniper F3 1600 (2x8GB) $197
Samsung 840 Evo 500gb ssd - $278
Seagate Barracuda 2tb 3.5” $95
Seasonic Platinum 760W $239
Total $1706
I don't think I'll bother with the water cooling, I have no intent to overclock.
Any thoughts on this before I pull the trigger?

Water cooling isn't just useful for overclocking, it can help make a PC quieter as well.

Re: Another PC build thread
I agree with r8, I haven't overclocked in years, but I've had water cooling for near on 10 years, for me air just doesn't come close to creating a quiet PC all the time which is what I want.

Re: Another PC build thread
They had no samsung 500GB SSD so went with a 250GB and up'd the i7 to the K version running a 4GHz.
I'll post some pics later. It's all very black!

Re: Another PC build thread
I've had such a wonderful solution previously - air - that was nearly inaudible. And a crappy water pump can make noise enough.r8response wrote:Water cooling isn't just useful for overclocking, it can help make a PC quieter as well.
But generally, I agree, water solutions tend to be the quieter solution for gaming computers.

Hmmmm CPU running at 54-55 degrees sitting in BIOS. Seems a bit hot to me.

They aren't very good.
You could go with something like a Corsair H100i or a quality aftermarket heatsink/fan combination.

Re: Another PC build thread
It's a shame they cant provide one good enough to do they job. I'm not interested in overclocking, but I want to know it's being cooled to a reasonable level. Unless this is fine for normal operation, but in the past most of the processors I've owned will idle at around 30-40c.

Re: Another PC build thread
My i7 4770K is on a stock air cooler at 27 degrees right now. While I do plan to change it for something else, I have no urgent need. It is the loudest fan in my system, but my system is generally really quiet.

Re: Another PC build thread
Played some assassins creed, and installed a monitor to check temps, all cores were sitting at around 27-30c in windows. So not sure now. Some further testing will need to be done. I'll have to check it under load... But maybe the game play heated up the processor and helped it make contact with the heatsink.

Re: Another PC build thread
The standard coolers have those strips of paste on them.
Heating them up enough to melt and do their job is probably why the temps are normal now.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking SE1Z. If the temps are fine under load now, i'll probably just leave it stock.

There are a few things hereDexterPunk wrote:It's a shame they cant provide one good enough to do they job. 1) some cpus run higher, some lower
2) some mobo temp readers are not correct. And I mean utterly incorrect, sometimes. (I had one of those in the past) Try and touch the heatsink or if the mobo is open from the back you can try that too. It should give you an indication.
3) The paste needs to set in, if it's a new comp, let it run for a day or two and see again
4) those temps aren't too bad. But if you're worried, get a better solution. Most chips are happy to run up to 70-80 degrees and some even higher (some gfx chips do 100+, some cpus might shut down before that to prevent damage)
So all in all, don't get hung upon this, in my opinion. It has very little significance overall during normal operations.

Re: Another PC build thread
Yeah, I'm not too worried about any damage. It has a warning set on the mobo, and will shutdown after that if it gets too high. Looks like it may be all good now anyway. Man, Assassin's Creed looks pretty all on full graphics. It's been many years since I've been able to run a game at it's max settings. Coming from a 6 yr old computer with a mechanical HDD it's night and day.
