Thanks heaps mate.

Does it matter if I don't have the vector expansion (i.e.: not 6 DOF)?

Sorry JD, don't know the answer to that.

Oh well, only one way to find out!

It shouldn't matter. My TIR3 doesn't have the vector expansion activated and seems to work OK with 3rd party profiles.

Thanks for that.

I'll try it tonight.

If you are game, set your stick to 90 degrees out. It was once said who ever invented for rotary aircraft engine was a genius or a mad man. The forces that these engines put on the airframe throws the stick out by 90 degrees. It caught out new pilots flying camels. Master it and you are hard to catch in right hand turns.

I've not tried this myself as I have a hell of a time in the camel as it is. I like my nice Sopwith Pup :)

I flew the Camel once. Spun, lost wings, crashed, died. End of story.

I am currently making my way through the training missions. Some of them, like the bombing mission, are quite hard. The tank is almost impossible to hit!

The rotaries aren't so bad. Just make sure you have a handy blip switch bound. If I recall, you blip and initiate turns with your rudder. In fact I think all the WWI crates initiate turns with the rudder, rather than rolling over.

There was a stall recovery cheat sheet around at one point. It gave brief details on getting each aircraft sensible again. Of course, you always need altitude.

I spend most of my time trying to see through the oil splattered windshield and fighting off unconsciousness while trying to figure out which direction to fly to get back over the lines.

..But I've pulled the wings off a few as well...so there's that.

Bah! My TrackIR just won't play ball at all now. I have uninstalled/reinstalled four or five times and each time it throws up a different problem. It won't work properly with IR 4 software and it won't work at all with IR 5. I have emailed Natural Point but nobody has responded.

Bring on Oculus Rift!

By the way, I opened up my pedals and the first thing that happened was a coin fell out. Problem solved.

I might have an old version of the Natural Point software sitting on an old backup disk if you really get stuck J.D.

Thanks. I think I still have IR3 on an old one too. I'll have a look later.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's plans to update their rather old DX9 engine to support the VR headsets. Maybe VorpX or similar could hook up with it for tracking purposes, but you wouldn't get stereoscopic 3D with it.

If ROF VR support was announced, I'd happily repurchase the whole thing again to get it.

Ahh...phooey.

But I think there might be some hope. I've seen videos where people have made it work...after a fashion. But I"m not sure I want to go through that rigmarole to get it going. I know there's a strong move to update it now that Oculus Rift has been released.

Thanks Doc. I bought a few.

Airco D.H.2
Fokker E.III
Sopwith Pup
Halberstadt D.II
Albatros D.II and
Pfalz D.IIIa

The D.H.2 is an absolute bear and woe betide you if you stall the rudder. You won't get out of the spin. Haven't tried the E.III or either D.II but the Pfalz is a beast! Don't know why it didn't have a better reputation. The British who examined it were very impressed. All was going well against an F.E.2b until I shot the crap out of it and collided with the wreckage, destroying my prop! I landed safely, which is more than can be said for the F.E..

With the reek of cordite in his nostrils and the wind in his moustache, Dodsworth hunched over the butt of his gun as the Fokker, sensing it was his last fight, franticly weaved above the trees. As Dodsworth corrected his aim, the aircraft jinked in the wake of the enemy machine and he corrected again. Over the buzz of the engine and the chatter of the Lewis he could be heard shouting,

"That'll teach you to make lumpy custard!"

Not all fights ended so well...

My TrackIR5 appears to have packed it in. Lights on but no tracking. :(

Cursed, this happened to me last week too - I thought it was all over and I needed a new one, but a reinstall of the drivers fixed it.

I tried reinstallation of the software and drivers, but no dice. Perhaps I wasn't thorough enough though. The camera doesn't show up in the device manager as faulty, all looks normal there.

Basically, it looks like the IR LEDS in the camera are working, but the tracking part isn't doing anything. When I start up the application, the LED that tells you that it is tracking never comes on. It will still detect when a game it recognises starts up. I tried a track-clip-pro and it doesn't detect that either, so it's the camera bit that is letting me down.

I even plugged it into my old PC (although it too has been upgraded to Windows 10) and the camera showed the same symptoms there.

Sounds familiar...

Finally getting the hang of things. Having tried the DH.2 the other night, I sat down and gave the E.III a try tonight. The DH.2 is much harder to fly and you can see why they sometimes referred to it as "the spinning incinerator". It is very unforgiving.

The Eindecker, by comparison, is relatively benign. It's still tricky and I crashed and killed myself the first three flights I tried it on. After that, I got the hang of it and found it an excellent gun platform against DH.2s. The RoF deity claim the flight model for the Eindecker is porked and that the DH.2 should be superior to it. I suppose if you can control the bastard, that's probably true.
