pretty sad way to start the season. Phil Hughes in a critical condition after being hit in the head by a bouncer.

Jesus Christ! Sickening blow. I've always thought Helmets were for poofs and refused to wear one when I played. But clearly in this case he'd be stone dead without it.

I bet you never faced anyone as quick as these guys face. Or, more to the point, guys with the ability to get the ball coming off the pitch like elite cricketers.

I grew up around some quality cricketers, and they were a massive jump above A grade club cricket. Scott Prestwidge was a good friend of mine and he played for Qld. He told me to put a chest guard on in the nets one day and I refused. First ball, off a short run, came of an inside edge into my ribs and cracked one.

Cue the Rick McCosker story now from old man Jamo. :D

Sad to see this happen to Phil Hughes. I hope he pulls through.

But this is going to be a great summer of cricket with so much on. I'm enjoying it already and it's only just started! :)

As a former junior opening batsman, that's pretty sobering. RIP Phil Hughes.

It took me a moment to realise you were talking about Sean, not Tony.

I'm so gutted.

As a cricketer, I believe he had so much more to give. He was an amazing talent.

Farout. The Mrs did a TV commercial with him a couple of years ago, said he was a lovely guy.

RIP.

What horrible news and a massive shock. After the injuries to Schumacher and Bianchi this year (even though you can't really compare) I thought his career would probably be over but never expected this. RIP.
