Been a while since ive posted here. I sold my mx5 a while ago, and have recently replaced it with a c class. Very different car, particularly in power delivery. You can tell that germans think differently compared with the japanese when they design a car

135kw 1.8 turbo I believe. Facelift got the 7 speed finally? Nice cars. Very, very different to the Mx5! They're both RWD and that's about where the similarities end.

It's a base model mid-size Euro so pretty standard fair these days. Low-blow turbo with a good torque spread so very driveable. Certainly not underpowered but not exactly over-endowed either. C63 was an extra $90k or more new. Although, if we're speaking in relative terms then most cars on the road are underpowered for you, Shaun!

jeebes. We were not that far from a "Man and his Merc II" as I was seriously considering a Merc myself instead of getting yet another MX5. Was looking at the SLK230 to be precise of about a 2000 era. Might still happen.

It actually is a diesel, so not 135kw but 100kw. However it has quite a lot of torque, which is useful in a lot of situation. While the car is comfortable, smooth and quiet, the steering is annoying. Being electric, it feels like a gaming steering wheel without force feedback.

Hopefully it doesn't send me broke with repairs.

My car has electric steering and I really like it. I'm surprised so many people don't.

It's different from car to car. Our Superb has electric steering with no feel whatsoever even if it is nicely weighted. RenaultSport Meganes I've driven with electric steering feel really good. I don't think they'll ever off the feedback of a hydraulic (or unassisted - go Lotus!) rack but if done right they can still be good.

Hi all,

I took delivery of this car today. First of all, the factory merc dealership delivers a fantastic experience handing this car from them to you. Apparently they are judged very harshly for their customer experience, and are penalised quite harshly for not meeting the par.

In any case, after driving it for a little while, I realised that the electric steering is quite good. It was only very light at slow speeds or when it is stationary. Otherwise, it has a decent weight to it.

It is not exactly an eventful car to drive - i presume that it just deilvers the mercedes experience. A smooth car.

So far so good.

I just gave a lift to a mate this morning to pick up his Megane 275 Trophy R. No back seats, fixed back Recaros, 6 point harnesses and no sound proofing. In other words the complete opposite to your Merc! Would be nice to have both in the garage for when the mood arises.
