A mate of mine posted this on twitter, if you've ever wondered what angle a gradient is then this gives you an idea.
Also shows you the effect of gravity on us feeble humans!!!

Re: Gradient Angles
seems crazy that even gradients at the low end of that spectrum have me popping the front wheel up on a climb!

Re: Gradient Angles
1 in 20 is maximum for a walkway. 1 in 14 is maximum for a pedestrian ramp. 1 in 10 max for a step ramp (one step up into a building). 1 in 8 is max for a kerb ramp and a threshold ramp.
As for cars - 1 in 5 is max allowable for public car parks and 1 in 4 for residential.
So for all that driving up a ramp in a public car park can feel a bit steep, it still sits at the low end of that chart!

Yep & most ppl couldn't get up a 25% gradient on a bike let alone walking.Enforcer-J wrote:A 25% grade looks like nothing on that chart, but you sure as hell notice it when you try to ride a mountain bike up a grade that steep!

This is what happens when you try to run down a 1 in 2 hill ... after a cheese.

Re: Gradient Angles
I came fourth in one of the unofficial races (they do five official ones and then open the hill up to 20 people at a time) one year. No cheese. I won a limp, a swollen ankle and a painful drive home in my second race.
