The Red Centre

I recently came back from a trip to Northern Territory. What an amazing place to see! My girlfriend works as a dental nurse, and her boss here in Melbourne was off on holidays. He has contacts with a dentist that helps out up at Yulara near Uluru/Ayres rock, that could use a hand now and then, so my girlfriend got asked if she'd like to go up there to work for a week. She jumped at the chance of course, and I met up with her on her last day of work. We hired a Pajero and clocked up about 1400km. We were only meant to do 700, but it's a big place! We crammed so much into the time we had up there, and I only just feel like i'm recovered from it all now. We came back with some great memories of adventure and some funny nights with locals. I actually didn't take all that many pics, and the ones I did take were a little rushed. But I thought I'd chuck em up here anyway.

Love the Uluru one Dex. Maybe a tad over sharpened unless Flickr has done something to the edge of the rock.

Yeah it definitely has. Checked the TIF and JPG versions in ACR/Photoshop, and no ugly halo etc. Dunno what it's done there.

Just tried a bit of a screen grab of the TIF and uploaded to photobucket instead. Actually kind of annoying that flickr does that. I'm a paid member, I'd really have hoped that JPG's uploaded there wouldn't receive any further compression. :(

Still not as good as either the JPG or TIF on my computer but it's not as bad...

EDIT: it's also actually slightly worse in flickr's lightbox than if you load the high res image in the browser.

Awesome. All going well, next year I should be doing a trip up through the centre, and then across through the Kimberleys. Can't wait! These photos have me even keener :)

Good stuff Dex.

I was amazed how complex Uluru is. I had always thought it was pretty much a solid cliff face all the way round so was surprised to see how complex it is up close.

Kata Tjuta is extraordinary too.

Yeah me too Durbs... Lots of interesting formations etc. And even though I knew it was big, it was still bigger than I thought.
