It's PC only. Supposedly, it's much more of a rally simulation than previous DiRT games. Codemasters have said no micro transactions. First "update" is due at the end of may which should include Pikes Peak.

Steam reviews have been mostly positive (take them with a grain of salt!)
- 3 monitor support + FOV settings
- OculusRift support

I can't remember a codemasters racing game being sim-like... and i feel like they always seem to claim it every time they release a racing game. I do however usually enjoy their releases regardless. I'll probably grab this and love it.

Yeah, this has lit up my facebook this morning with all my rally friends creaming their pants for a Richard Burns Rally replacement.

It looks pretty good.

I doubt it will come even close to RBR. I'll be delighted if it does though.

I'd say this is closer to RBR, than it is to the previous DiRT titles.

I watched a bit of the Eurogamer vid in VT's link earlier. Apparently the producer for DiRT Rally, is a Rally enthusiast himself. Competes on a regular basis.

I never really liked RBR. The cars always felt too bouncy for me, not planted on the road. It was like gravity was set too low or something.

This is a quote from the article there which I agree with:
"I haven't aimed at Richard Burns Rally and say I want to make a game as revered as Richard Burns is," he says. "However, my personal feeling and the feeling of a number of rally drivers I've spoken to who've had experience of Richard Burns Rally out of the box - I'm not talking about the modded version - certainly it's too hard. It's a simulation that goes beyond what is real, and if rally cars fully drove like that, there wouldn't be many rally drivers left in the world because they'd all be wrapped around trees."
Rally cars are easy to drive at 5 tenths, whereas in RBR you could be pootling around trying to stay on the road and still bounce off into a double backflip pike into the scenery.

Man on man, I wish this did become a sim. I'd love a great rally game. I can't really enjoy the dirt games, I just don't find them challenging for the right reasons.

I'll keep my eye on this for sure.

You must really want this to become a sim.

Having watched the video, it does seem promising, mostly because the guy doing the talking mentions AC and iracing etc, so if he thinks it's more of a sim than the old game, then I'm inclined to believe him.

I'll throw some money at it I think.

and rest assured that the hill climb will be available in its older, untamed incarnation as well as its more sterile modern form

I agree. Looks pretty good. I enjoyed playing the DiRT games but really wanted longer and more authentic feeling rally stages so this looks like it should fit the bill. RBR really was the GPL of the rally scene. Too difficult but it only made it so much sweeter once you were in the groove and completed a quick stage.

Has beta level rift support as well. Not sure if that's enough to make me get another unfinished early access game though.

" and no longer can you attack each stage like a thick-armed hooligan 100 per cent of the time. Getting the front to bite into a corner takes some player-orchestrated weight transfer,"

Perfect...

Edit: I just bought it.

The best rally game I played was the first Colin McRae, after that they went a bit too arcade feeling.

Well.. I don't know. There's a lot to like, but the FFB and wheel support at the moment feels like it's dulling the whole thing down. The car moves and reacts in a convincing way, but the it feels like it's not setup for a 900 degree wheel. It looks and sounds fantastic, so fingers crossed they can get a better feel for what's going on in the car.

There's a lot of potential here. If codemasters listen to the feedback from the sim community, they could have a gem on their hands. At the moment, it's neither here nor there.

Can you set it up for less rotation, say 540?

I dont think rally cars have 900 degrees of rotation...... VT?

Depends on the car, but yeah, WRCars would have less steering rotation / quicker steering rack. Production cars are production cars, so my car has a pretty normal amount of steering rotation.
