I'm after advice again although this may be a little, er, beneath you guys

Long version
A few years ago my missus got a DSLR (after much appreciated help from ARSE).

She enjoyed the photography but it hasn't really got as much use as I'd hoped. Her reasons are that it's just too big (she's little) so she feels really self conscious carrying it about and using it. She also finds it uncomfortable taking photos of people with it for some reason so we never get photos of our friends and family from her. Because of that and the fact we're not travelling much these days, it spends most of its time gathering dust.

I've given up trying to convince her on the SLR but she really does enjoy taking photos so we've been looking at smaller alternatives.

Short version
Does anyone have any experience with smaller cameras that still have a level of manual control? I've been looking at the Panasonic Lumix TZ70/ZS50 - http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panas ... TZ70_ZS50/

Anyone used one?

I have played around with them back when I was working at JB...

Pana's are always pretty good cameras. Is a Canon G16 too big? Those things are pretty great.

We've had a G11 for years. Excellent bit of kit.

This thing would be a great middle ground too. Just depends what you want to spend.

Yeah, depends on budget, and i guess also what size camera she'd prefer to use.

I don't know much about the new G1x, but I remember the old one being bigger and more expensive than the G16 (G15 at the time?) without being much better in terms of image quality. They may have improved them with the MKII though.

My understanding was that the X has a significantly bigger sensor and is much better in low light.

Was meant to be the case with the MkI as well.

Just had a very quick look on DPR, and they have improved the MKII a lot apparently.

Thanks lads. The Canon looks like it could do the business but I don't know if she'll want to spend that much. The equivalent Sony looks good too.
