Usually small bumps are ok, more likely it was just its time to die. It happens.
I've personally found that mechanical drives either fail in the first year, or last bloody ages. However that probably only applies to computers getting a lot of use (which hasn't been mine over the last few years unfortunately).

Funniest shit I ever seen at a lan was when a buddy got shot in a game (most likely CS) and bangs his fist on the desk in rage. The guy next to him has his PC just up and shit itself. Funniest part was it happened to the guy that always had the best hardware and would laugh at those with lesser gear. ahh memories
