flickr alternative

The other day I saw an ad pop up in my flickr feed when scrolling through, and they actually made the ad look as if it's one of your photos. I really don't mind ad banners etc on a site, they have to make their money somehow. But I feel like it's crossing the line a bit to slip it into your photo albums like that. I'd never noticed this before as i've always had a paid account. What I find the most annoying is that if I paid for a membership, it would remove these ads from my perspective, but not for the audience of my images if they have a free account. What others see when they view my flickr is precisely what I care about to be honest.

I've never really had any interest in looking about for another site for image hosting etc, but I'm starting to wonder whether there's something else out there that's better. I've used sites like photobucket etc before just for temp imaging hosting to post on forums etc, but don't really think it's up to scratch for decent photography. I find the compression to be pretty bad.

Just interested if any of you use anything else. I had a look around but didn't find much. It didn't appear as though there's a clear competitor to flickr? I don't mind paying a small fee for a good site.

I have had an account there for a while for a select batch of my images. There are times I dont want to send people to my Flickr as it has so many images on it so I created the 500px folio to acompany my graphic design folio. https://500px.com/knapposk

Just having a look. Do I have to put my photos up for sale? Can you just choose not to? Or price them so high no one will buy them? I looked through the FAQ and it wasn't really clear.

Price them high enough and people will buy them!
