It does look good, so much equipment included. Need to get out and have a drive of one.
Cursed wrote:I'm still pretty pleased with my base model Jetta I picked up at the beginning of the year. Has enough go and plenty of space.
I haven't looked at them either yet, will do that, cheers.

I have had 2 hire cars this week, a Rav4 and a Mitsu ASX. I think it's turned me off the small SUV thing. I know I'm coming from a Clio RS so not much is going to be that fun but they were so uninspiring and wollowing. It also seems like you're paying so much more just for the size of the car/popularity of the segment that you get fewer features. Just bland.

Looking forward to getting into the Octavia and the Jetta to see if they make me smile a little :)
Both those are CVT I think? The Rav 4 is a corolla jacked up. They're boring. My mum owns an ASX and it's also boring. VW Tiguan/Skoda Yeti will give you a decent perspective on what they're supposed to be. Our Tiguan even came with launch control was epically fun. We drove every compact/mid SUV and the VW won by a landslide. Then bought a Touareg and now an Amarok. Try the VW's mate, they're great!

But a Tiguan has a tiny useable boot space compared to an Octavia which is also newer and on the better MQB architecture. Newly unveiled Tiguan looks a nice bit of kit but won't be here for a while. Yeti is also small (but has very versatile seating) but is cheap. New Yeti will basically be a rebadged new Tiguan.

The ASX is but the Rav isn't. I can safely say I'll never buy a CVT if they're all like the ASX, just makes it even more dull for some reason. Probably just a mental thing but that's what it's all about.

I love your knowledge Exar, it's out of this world!

CVT should be uninvented. Makes a dull drive even worse I reckon.

Exar: We never had any issues with boot space in the Tiguan. Seats moved forward too for extra room. More space than a hatch, less than a wagon. The golf chassis is in a lot of VW/Skoda vehicles.

Santaria...happy to back up your thoughts on the VW. Had for a couple of weeks now a 2014 Passat. Replaing my huge cx9 which i loved(economising due to eldest being in Hobsrt st Uni). Power , trim economy, and drive is awsome. Doubt it will be my last beetle..alltrack passat here we come:)

That looks alright. I don't get the appeal of these mid size SUVs or whatever they're called but apparently it's becoming the mainstream segment of the market. A sporty wagon though is something I could go for if practicality was a concern.

Another day looking around and driving a handful of cars.
Ended up falling in love with the Suburu's, they come with the best range of features for the price.

SUV: Forrester, great car, but typical SUV handling. Tho the 2.5 felt a lot nicer to drive/quicker than the CX-5 I drove
The outback was a great compromise, it had quite a decent amount of ground clearance and drove/handled better than any of the SUV's I tried.. but its massive

That being said, think im going to land with the Levorg, its going to end up costing me ~51k on-road, which is more than I wanted to spend, but I did find it a nicer car to drive than the Skoda Oktavia RS.. and I dont have a lot of faith in VW Group gearboxs still with 4 friends having problems over the years.

Was checking out those Levorgs the other day. I didn't think they were available yet? They look like they'd be bloody quick.

Levorgs are cool. CVT unfortunately but apparently it's one of the better ones.

Went with GT-S, the top line one only has a few STI aesthetics (Shift Knob/Spoilers/Wheels) and seeing my garage is a pain to get in figured taking Spoilers off isnt worth the extra!

Ive done ~300km today, really enjoyable car. The CVT is better than I expected, delivers power well and feels nice in traffic.
Only complaint is it has a bit of road noise compared to some of the other cars I drove, but hey I drive a S15 with Semi Slicks most of the time, so its a HUGE improvement on that!

So I've driven the Octavia wagon, and also had a drive of the Mazda 6 wagon.

I thought the 6 was more comfortable and stable and had more punch but felt much larger. The Skoda was definitely a harsher ride and the DSG was no where near as smooth, often searching for gears, but felt more pointy and a bit more fun (more like the Clio though with waaay less oomph).

I was looking at the Style model in the Octavia, second from the bottom as it has more features plus leather etc.

BUT, reading around people suggest there is more value in getting the base model and optioning up. I'd be missing out on leather and dual zone climate control by doing it this way but this is what I've decided on.

I can't get it till January but there's a 5-6 month wait anyway so I've ordered the 2017 model which gets more gear in the base model like rear view camera, adaptive cruise and auto breaking.

2017 Octavia Ambition110 TSI - 7 speed DSG
Race blue metallic
Electric panoramic sunroof
Auto boot opener

Sports pack
- 18" black alloys
- Rear spoiler
- Black mirror caps and side/rear decals
- Fog lights
- 3 spoke leather flat bottom steering wheel
- Sports suspension
- Bi xenon lights with daytime running LED's and adaptive front lights
- Light assist
- Rain sensing lights and wipers

Tech pack
- 8" screen and columbus nav
- 10 speaker canton speaker system - subbie bro
- Auto park assist with front and rear sensors
- Keyless entry and push button start
- Driving mode selection
- Voice control

It'll look like this but blue, the blue looks excellent in the flesh.

Not bad for $36K.

Thanks for all the advice guys
