1/18th scale die-cast WRC

Hey all, just wondering how many people collect 1/18th scale die-cast model cars. I have a couple, but was wondering what the better brands are to collect. I'm mostly interested in looking into getting some older WRC cars. Group B, and 90's.

I have a bunch but haven't picked up anything new for years. Autoart and kyosho are both good.

If you wanted to start a cheap collection of road cars, Maisto are $24 each at Costco. Normally $50 or $60 at least elsewhere. Not the greatest quality but brilliant for the price (my son has 15 of them or something Hehe)

I have a collection of MotoGP the old two stroke 500 GP bikes and Ducati's all in a glass case that I haven't looked at for years :)

All Rossi bikes 125 and on.

Are the on display richo??

Mick, I have a few cheapies. I have one AutoArt Focus WRC car which I love.

I'd like to gradually pick up some higher quality models. Seems little choice when it comes to some of the Group B, and 90s rally cars. Lancia Delta S4 by AutoArt is like $400 :o

Oh wait, there a couple of AutoArt versions. This one is a bit more :eyepop:

It's still kinda strange autoart / kyosho hasn't done a group B series. It's such a romanticised period of Motorsport.

Cheers johnny. I found that place the other day and had a closer look at those sunstar models. They get some pretty rubbish reviews though. :(

I'm thinking it might be fun to hunt down some plastic kits instead. I used to love building models as a kid. Still seems like there are loads more muscle cars out there than anything Motorsport/Rally

There are good rally kits about - even some modern ones, by Belkits and Beemax I believe. I'm not sure how easy they are to find but they exist - the Volkswagen, Skoda and Fiesta are available and then for the previous generation there is Tamiya.
In fact a good case can be built that rally is the best looked after of the modern generation of competition cars.

There have been a bunch of new releases recently - Nissan 240RS, Toyota Celica, Mk. 1 Escort, Opel Manta - your timing could not be better really.

Have a poke around here:

There are 10 rally project threads on that page that should provide some inspiration.

As you are in Melbourne might be worth checking out HobbyHQ - I think Willy is selling up and might be offering some bargains. I'm not buying any kits at the moment so I have not been keeping up to date but any questions shoot me a message Dex.

Aaah, didn't check any reviews out, was just somewhere I came across whilst mooching around the internets :(

Last time I built a model was probably that Dennis Priddle dragster I mentioned in the Hot Wheels thread :eyepop: That's a long time ago. Be interested to see if you find anything nice, I'd like a Mk 1 Escort at some point.

Johnny I'd also love a MK 1.

Thanks heaps for that Jiminee, that forum looks super helpful. Where is hobby hq? A quick good brought up somewhere in NSW.

Hobby HQ - 5/29 Macquarie Drive, Thomastown, Victoria
I have never been but have bought stuff off him online. I dont think it is a shop as such but I believe he has some open days.

As for the Mark 1, there you go. I have a Mk 2 in my stash which I hope to build like the one Ken Block had in his video with Chris Atkinson.

Thanks again Jiminee. I started a new thread as it's not really relevant to die cast anymore.

Keep us posted Dex, I love making my models vs die casts. I spent 3 months painstakingly detailing my 1:10th Williams FW14B and my Ferrari 312T.
I use to have a fair few 1:20th's, that Benetton included but as I was only about 12 they got played with lol.

As time went on I bought a few 1:18th die casts but would love to magically find the time to finish off the two McLaren MP4/4 and MP4/5 that im about half way thru customising all the plumbing and wiring looms as I built it. Pain to make sure the engine cover still fits as you go but oh so worth it when you are done.
