Yep with hardly any SC's the field can get spread out & stagnant at Bathurst.
Got to feel for Davey & Lukey, they had the package again this year. The team should've ripped Dave out straight away. He was clearly passed the point of no return but it's easy to say in hindsight.
But holy shit, Lowndesy is so close to winning his 7th in his last full time drive at The Mountain,. Which will be another great story in the history of this race.

Wouldn't matter if they pulled him out earlier, Lowndes would still of won. I'd rather see the field spread out than the artificial hype that happens with a late safety car.

Whoever runs the team should have been making or made the decision , you can't leave it to a driver that is talking shorthand to make that call.

Fairy tale finish today.

Poor Reynolds, best car by far out there.

Championship is back on with SVG not getting out of sight for Scott M.

I don’t understand this Winterbottom to Team18 talk. Absolutely career ending move. Those guys have completed about ten race laps in the last three years at Bathurst.

Clearly it shows Craig Lowndes does not need to retire. Triple8 are pushing him out the door what appears to have been a move to have De Silvestro drive the third Holden and fly the gender flag. Since she’s been shown up a bit and opted to flee at season end they put their tail between their legs and go to two cars. Realistically a Lowndes season is self sufficient on his big name sponsors and merchandising. Surprising decision still.

I get the feeling Tickford are low balling Winterbottom and T18 is his final option.
I also get the feelingTickford is a highly toxic environment and today will not be helping that.

Tim Edwards has been Team Manager since it became FPR (Prodrive) after the Gibson/00 Motorsport days.

I’m not sure what performance factors they judged him and his team on over the years because realistically the results have been overally poor except for 1 x championship and 2 x Bathurst in about 15 years. Crap considering the cash/resources they always had.

You are right, doesn’t look to be a happy home.

There may also be some sort of tie in with Tickford and T18, they might become their fourth car again? Feels like there is going to be a major change with RECs.
The Kostecki's want one clearly but could they go for two? I am also expecting something to happen with Tekno.

What The Supercars?
Just call the race already.
If they persist with trying to get the min laps under SC to get a race result it'll be a farce & in the courts for months. Especially if it affects the result of the championship.

Edit: Correct decision made...

Correct decision to abandon it.

That weather was known about all weekend. Abandon the shootout, race earlier and then whatever happens the rest of the day with support categories.

Of course it’s centred around tv times etc but better then no race.

Hahaha good one Dr.
Pretty Boring Race after the SC till that last lap.
I reckon Mr. 500 (Roger) will be pissed as I see that as being a failure of leadership. Or their data was flawed...

Game over I'd say... Penalty recommended following SVG investigation
Shane van Gisbergen’s victory in the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 opener remains preliminary, with an investigation into his third pitstop resulting in a penalty being recommended.
The relevant rule exists for safety reasons, limiting the chances of a car being driven off with the fuel hose still attached.
Supercars has confirmed that Deputy Race Director Michael Masi’s investigation determined a breach of the rules has been established.
A penalty has been recommended, which Triple Eight has refused to accept, resulting in the matter being referred to the stewards.
The stewards will reconvene at the circuit on Sunday morning, adding to what is already set to be a dramatic final day of the season.
Masi's recommended penalty has not been publicly disclosed ahead of the Sunday hearing.

I'm glad Ford will win but it's not ideal over a technicality.

25 second penalty, now 53 points behind. It's a shame because it was looking like it was going to be a nail biter. McLaughlin only needs to finish 6th if Giz wins.

It ruins the last race somewhat. It would have been good to see them both have a straight fight, winner takes all.

Just remember McL only needed to finish 11th in the last race last year & still lost the championship.
Although I've always said you need to loose one before you learn how to win one, so I can't see him stuffing it up 2yrs in a row.

He REALLY lost it last year. I'd hope he's a bit more mature this year.

Congrats Scotty, DJR & Team Penske.
Won it on the track too.
888 RBRA may find it tougher to win Championships from now on.
Bring on the Mustang & the 2019 season...

And CL's burnout at the end was mega!!!
Thanks for all the memories Lowndesy.
