He's doing an amazing job. He'll thoroughly deserve this win at the end if he's still going.

I wonder if the "Shoey" is allowed on the podium steps.

Yeah he did the "Shoey".
But it's just so gross...

I like how he bowed to the royal family before he did it, very courteous.

Shit that was hard to watch.

What an amazing job he did. Lost the MGUK, 25% less power than it would usually have.

I assumed because of his low power he topped out in 6th on the straights so couldn't pull 7th, I'm not sure they use 8th there anyway.

Yeah that was my take on the situation too. Horner just said it was a loss of the MGU-K, no mention of loss of gears.
Either way it was the best place for it to happen. Still a great drive by Dan to change his driving to counter the issue & hold his nerves for so long.

He didn't really lose the gears, just loss the use of them due too a lack of power. You wouldn't really use 8th around there anyway.

Up the hill after T1 was the biggest issue. Watch the time gaps and some laps Vettel made 0.4 there.

Hamilton wasnt using 8th either. 7th in the tunnel was as high as I saw him go.

It was interesting watching the gap, it grew and shrunk at the same spots every lap. Across the line it'd come down to 1.2, then drop to about 0.9 as Vettel chased him to the top of the hill, then 1.0 once they got to the hairpins, 1.5 as they headedout of Portier to the tunnel and then back to 1.0 from the chicane all the way to the last 2 corners where Ricciardo would suddenly pull it out to 1.5 as Vettel struggled with La Rascasse, then it'd go back to about 1.2 across, the line, and on and on.

That lack of power meant he wasn't going to light up the rears and it drove out of corners pretty damn good. They have good mechanical grip on that thing as well as aero.

Seems he had lots of problems, the rear brakes were cooking also.

That could be a career defining drive.. Well done Danny!

No MGU-K, means all the heat that was meant to be being used, soaked into the rear rubber, let alone the small brakes they use because of how they harvest power. I like what the team said afterwards, no one but Dani could have brought that car home. Horner was getting calls every 2-3 laps that they had to retire the car, and he just said no fucking way, not until it breaks.
