I don't keep up on GPU tech all that much but it seem like these cards are a good step to push technology forward but the value for the average joe may not be there. It seems a bit doubtful that these cards will significantly outperform the current gen cards for existing games which don't utilise this new tech, the next gen might be point where enough new games are out there that make it worth it. The new port for VR headsets is a similar thing, next gen headsets are probably still years away so it's a good step for the future but for right now?

$1900AUD for the Ti. Fuck that noise.

We desperately need AMD or intel to make a competitive card to get prices back to earth. Unfortunately the intel one isn't supposed to launch until 2020.

I'll be skipping this generation and maybe the next, depending on the progression of VR and what that entails.

Yet to be seen. With FGPA lurking in the shadows, who knows.

But, the good thing, the 1080Tis will drop and I can grab a few more of those bad bananas to go in my rig.

Already sold a 1070 for $150 :D

$1350-1700 for a card that's not much faster than a 1080Ti and has less RAM. Though one of the benchmark sites showed temp under load and the 2080's were running comparatively cool so there may be more in it. Also to see what impact the new AA method has once games actually support it. At this point I'd rather get a 1080Ti.

The FE versions direct from nvidia are much cheaper at $1200AUD with free shipping. Retailers still trying to ride the mining price hike it seems.

I have seen the odd 1080Ti under $1k. But only just. 1070s can be had for less than $600 now.

Talk amongst miners is the 20 series will use more power. I guess we will know soon enough.

I was thinking of getting one of these, but my 1080Ti still runs most games fine on triples, so I might just wait. A 1080Ti, 1080 stock and 3 1070s is probably enough GPU power for now :D

While that one looks ok, most of the others are not even comparing the same thing.. just crazy randomness and badly rushed. Oh, wait some of the demos were made in less than 24hrs to show the tech. nVidia dropped the ball hard on this one.
Some play it safe on the merry-go-round, others go for the thrills of the roller-coaster.

So while moving an old 780ti from an ancient PC to my recently replaced one (being repurposed for the kids to use), the 780ti decided it didn't want to work anymore. Caught on the horns of a dilemma, I decided to pass down my 1080 and pony up for an ASUS RTX 2080 Turbo. I had a bunch of credit card points that I could turn into cash, so I've only paid half price for it - about $700. The choice of this particular ASUS card is down to the cooler design - my small case would work better with the old blower design than the newer version.

I decided to go this route because :
  • Bang for buck might be on-par for a 1080ti, but I didn't want to pay this much to buy into the older generation
  • NVidia has been ahead of AMD for a while. This looks like an interesting opportunity for them to take a half-step and throw in something new (ray-tracing and the AI driven AA)
  • I had those credit card points that I could offset against the price
It is a bummer that there's nothing out to demo the new tech on, but we have to expect this with new tech from time to time. It is still a good step up from the 1080 although that card was still a great performer.

I have looked a few times, but just cant justify it over the 1080Ti at the current price.

I have 4 1070s a 1080 and a 1080Ti here, so there will come a time when I grab the 2080Ti, but it is a while off yet. I need crypto to go crazy again :)

There's a theory that nvidia panicked over AMD's 7nm talk and rushed these cards out to get developers doing ray tracing for their cards first. Not sure that holds up though given 7nm navi isn't supposed to be out until next year and the ray tracing is being done with Microsofts api, not an nvidia one.

The ray tracing stuff does need some specialised hardware to do it properly though. It's also been rolled into the Vulkan API as well

Seems to be some price movement finally, with some 2080Ti's going for under $1500. Maybe trying to get high end sales ahead of AMD's E3 presentation, which might include Navi.

I am really happy with mine. Mines like a bastard and most games I can run with a lot of candy and it is fine on triples.

It is still a lot of money for a gpu though. Even at sub $1500
