Cracking race. Shame Dan couldn't get by Bottas sooner. He was faster than Max all race. I was hoping to see double rage if he beat him

Actually, that's a really good point.Sarsippius wrote:the smart move for Max was to let him by down the inside into T1. Instead he defends and puts Ocon in a position where he attempts to pass around the outside,
Max obviously was aware Ocon was quicker because he felt the need to defend the line. That itself was silly because he was compromising his own lap time and if he let him past and then re-caught Ocon a few laps later when the supersofts has gone off he would have been blue flagged past anyway. So the sensible thing was to just let Ocon by. He doesn't seem to have the spare mental capacity that some other drivers have to see the bigger picture of what's going on.

Ocon should have picked a better spot to pass. Yes you can un-lap yourself but be smarter about as I feel that he did change the outcome of that race. I can't blame Max for being pissed off.

Not many better spots to pass at Interlagos than T1 tho, especially if you have a massive run on someone.
I have to agree on the point about Max defending and taking the inside line into 1 wasn't very wise. Ocon could have backed out of it there and then but he obviously didnt want to waste his run on him and kept at it.

He could have had him down the straight if he had waited till after the Senna S.

The whole thing with Max is you've got a guy who was fast tracked into the top level, so first off he is young and immature and secondly he doesn't have the racing experience and smarts that you gain over time and would usually possess by the time you get to F1 level. A smart racer would be just as pissed at themselves and working out what they should have done differently to avoid what happened.

Yes, it is all in this interview;
- They were competitors in Karts & F3 but never had a relationship one way or the other.
- Their fathers didn't like each other until they both made it to F1. Understandable given the limited sears available at the top.
- Ocon beat Max in F3 & karts too iirc.
- Max is in the better F1 team so possibly some friction given their competitiveness & racing histories
- At the end of the day they are both very young & immature, trying to establish their presence in F1

So Verstappen knew he was faster, on ultra softs and irrelevant to his race but decided to defend anyway. smrt

If Ocon's pitstop had been better, then he would have been out in front of Verstappen.

Watching that replay really puts it into perspective for me. I really can’t see how Ocon did much wrong. Max just didn’t give him any racing room. Stupid when he had everything to lose.

Re: 2018 FORMULA 1 GRANDE PRÊMIO HEINEKEN DO BRASIL
I always had the opinion that it looked like Max squeezed him into the apex and this confirms it. However, there is some merit in wanting to have a car, that you're not in competition with, between you and someone who you are racing. Also, had he let Ocon through, Max would then have been following him for the next lap or three and that's not always good for handling or tyre wear. That being said, it really is no excuse for not racing cleanly.DarrenM wrote:So Verstappen knew he was faster, on ultra softs and irrelevant to his race but decided to defend anyway. smrt

To me watching that video Ocon only seemed quicker when he had DRS so was he really faster than Max, I'm not so sure.

Re: 2018 FORMULA 1 GRANDE PRÊMIO HEINEKEN DO BRASIL
With newer tyres and DRS, Ocon would have had Max on the straight after the Senna S. No point trying to do it in the Senna S as it's Max and he won't let you by no matter what.
