Wow & :(
I also wasn't sure about the heli crash either. It was one of the only parts of this whole series that seemed to be a bit hollywood'ised. I think because it didn't effectively show or I didn't notice that it hit the nearby crane.
Watched the last episode last night & thought, if you didn't know it was real you would say it was one of the best written shows as the events around it are just mindbogglingly incomprehensible.
Glad many of you here decided to watch & have enjoyed it.

Now check out real footage of the actual bio-robots cleaning the roof...

Oh, the other thing that was a surprise, the divers didnt die. One did recently, the others are alive. Apparently water is a soak for radioactivity. I am still reading about that.

I watched that video the other day Duke. As well as a LOT fucking more. :D

An older NYT article but has some chilling facts about the future of dealing with the ongoing clean up required.

That was a great finish. The bridge of death, all those poor folk watching the fire. Great to see the footage of some of the real folk at the end. And i thought in addition to Skaarsgard's great performance, that Paul Ritter who played Dyatlov (and who is the stupid shirtless father in Friday Night Dinner) was excellent. I still rate The Wire and Deadwood above tjhis, but it was great and i know I'll watch it again. I bought Midnight in Chernobyl on Kindle and now I'm immersed in the horrors of nuclear power.

Craig Mazin (series creator) says this book is one of the best accounts written on the disaster, it is on my wish-list now...

Chernobyl Prayer: A Chronicle of the Future (Penguin Modern Classics) Kindle Edition by Svetlana Alexievich (Author), Anna Gunin (Translator), Arch Tait (Translator)
On 26 April 1986, at 1.23am, a series of explosions shook the Chernobyl nuclear reactor. Flames lit up the sky and radiation escaped to contaminate the land and poison the people for years to come. While officials tried to hush up the accident, Svetlana Alexievich spent years collecting testimonies from survivors - clean-up workers, residents, firefighters, resettlers, widows, orphans - crafting their voices into a haunting oral history of fear, anger and uncertainty, but also dark humour and love. A chronicle of the past and a warning for our nuclear future, Chernobyl Prayer shows what it is like to bear witness, and remember in a world that wants you to forget

Just watched the final episode. I suspected the lady scientist was a made up character, it all seemed a bit too conveniently modern to have a female protagonist, but I get why they did it so it's fine.

It's still utterly terrifying to watch the thing play out, knowing it was all real though.

She was an amalgam dubs, but a woman because there's a large proportion of women in that industry apparently.

I binged this last week whilst on holiday.

Excellent. Really well made explanation of what happened and the people around it. At first I was't sure about the accents (seemed a bit odd with Liverpudlians being called Vasili etc) but I soon got used to it. The final episode was superb and also the info at the end about the real people and some of the shocking statistics of the death rates.

A bonus episode of the podcast has been released (also on itunes etc)

Peter Sagal and Craig Mazin are back for a special bonus episode. They're joined by actor Jared Harris (Valery Legasov) to discuss filming Chernobyl, Harri's experience portraying Legasov and the global reaction to the miniseries.

I really enjoyed this series and it was a good distraction, and by the comments here I'll also look into the podcast.
