Wow, that looks like DRS covers nearly 50% of the track. Ridiculous.

When I read this morning that Ferrari has pole position..... First thought was how is their strategy department going to fuck it up.

Turned it on with 6 laps to go thinking this could be a great finish with Ham right on the back of Seb, and then I heard about the penalty, turned it back off and went to work instead.

Sounds like a BS penalty (havent seen it myself) when even the UK commentators are questioning something which hands a win to Hamilton.

Text book penalty, it's a dangerous re-entry any day of the week. Seb has once again thrown away a win.

Vettel only ended up that far across the track because he was trying to throttle up. Instinct for sure, but still his own fault

Completely disagree GT, no way momentum wasnt pushing him across the curve and then it just bounced.

Why wasn't this a penalty (sorry for potato vision, stolen from Reddit)

If it was one of the other chicanes with the bollard to go around I'd agree it was a penalty because they have enough space and time to sort themselves out after the incident, but he was still gathering it up and had no way to stay on the left. If he was barreling backwards across the track they wouldn't have penalised him, but because he was facing the right way they assumed he was in control. Over regulation on iffy incidents is what's sterilizing the sport.

Not only was it a completely bullshit penalty, it robbed us of an on track fight for the win. Something the sport desperately needs.

Interesting decision & not great for the sport. But you can't deny another mistake from Vettel put a certain win in jeopardy.

Either way & besides this controversy, it was another boring & processional race for F1.

What a fucked up decision! I don't think it was dangerous. If Hamilton wasn't there it would have been a nothing incident.

Just sums up th state of Hamilton 1, sorry formula 1. The favourite driver can do as he pleases. Always been the case. Schumacher got away with so much shit over the years

Joke of a sport. Im seriously doubting my interest to watch the rest of the year

What a load of bull shit. Fucking sport is being ruined by stupid decisions that seem to fall the same way so damned often. Someone is really trying to make Hamilton look way fucking better than he is.

I seriously don't get everyone bitching about the penalty. What was hamilton meant to do, put him in the wall? Hamilton did absolutely nothing wrong. I completely disagree with everyone saying he couldn't do anything, because he easily could of not tried to power on so soon. He knew hamilton was close and was trying to stop him by getting the power on too soon.

The rule is black and white, the rule has been has been consistently applied for the last year or so (see Max at Suzuka last year), and the rule is as old as racing itself. The argument of it ruined the racing has absolutely nothing to do with it, the race was boring anyway.

he didnt just drift over to the outside he had a massive correction as the rear wheels bounced over the kerb. he wasn't in control of the car.

Hamilton has gone off track and put people into the wall to stop them and no penalty. so its not consistent.

Ricciardo

"If he pulls a little further to the left, he'll spin. When he brakes on the grass, he'll spin too. There was not much room for Lewis but still enough.I had an identical situation with Lewis in 2016 Monte Carlo. He had to go through the emergency exit and almost pushed me into the wall on his return. With me it was tighter than now with him. He didn't get a penalty. That was a good thing. It was a hard racing"

I'm not sure anyone is saying it shouldn't be a penalty because it robbed everyone of a race but that it was a bad decision and it also robbed everyone of a race.

Hamilton was impeded for sure but it was a racing incident, no more than that and not worthy of a penalty in my opinion.
