Wearable tech for fitness tracking

Post by Big Kev »

I'm considering going back to the gym after a 20 year hiatus. What wearable tech are you guys sporting?

I'm looking at the likes of the apple watch, garmins, fitbits etc to track my lard loss! Apple is winning the race to my wallet so far as it seems the most flexible and I'm already in the OS environment with an iphone, macbook and ipad. New ones will likely be out in September so I have plenty of time to think.

As anti Apple as I am, if you already have a bunch of Apple gear, the Apple watch seems like the smart option.

I have a Garmin 735 that I am very happy with.
Sarc ; my second favourite type of gasm.

I've got a Garmin Forerunner 235 that I'm also happy with. Battery lasts almost a week!

Ive had a Garmin, and now on an Apple watch.
If your doing triathlons or full on events, then the Garmin series is great.. The battery life is king and the mutlisport side is unmatched.

If you are an apple iPhone just want a watch that is capable of your typical workouts + functional the rest of the time, then I would go Apple. Being able to answer calls, respond to text and use some basic in-app functions means the Apple Watch is king.

I chose a Fitbit Charge 3 for my tracker. I had a bias for sleep tracking also, for which it is highly acclaimed. It tends to over-count steps though...

A colleague who has been running for years has the Garmin watch and said it's great. When I took up running last year I got myself a Garmin Vivosport.

It's not fancy but it was pretty cheap, it works well, the GPS seems good and the notifications are incredibly useful because we have to have our phones on silent at work.

I wouldn't buy anything but a Garmin these days.
Apple watch seems good if you are already inside the walled garden.

I have a Forerunner 735XT which ive owned for over a year now.

I haven't got anything myself, but my partner uses a Garmin Forerunner 235 for her trail running and is pretty happy with it :)

As I'm already in the Apple environment I just ordered a series 5 watch. Pick it up on the 20th and then join the gym and see if I can shift some lard!

My 20 year old Suunto Vector watch went dead this weekend after a few weeks of the LCD display getting incomplete, fading etc. So, thinking of a smart watch replacement - Garmin Vivoactive 4 looks good - any thoughts?
