Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020!

Post by smithcorp »

Have you chaps seen this? MS Flight Simulator is back! It looks amazing, uses the cloud to stream landscapes at incredible levels of detail. The new weather engine and clouds look amazing:

I have watched a few of the videos of it and even in the early stages it looks frigging amazing.

The specs to run it will be interesting .

I've been following this for a few weeks and I can't get over what a massive leap forward they're making. The way they've automated the world modelling is amazing.

This looks realistic as all hell too - spin training was the scariest thing I've done and this captures the effect exactly. I can imagine the feeling of this in VR

I never got into flight sims in a big way even though I put quite a few hours into them back in the day.

This one has caught my attention though, and is the first time I've considered getting one for years. The technology sounds incredible if it works as stated.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you finally have enough horsepower.

Love me a good flight sim but not a lot of time to do them these days.

I'm betting there is a lot of scenery developers very nervous about this though.

Yes! This streaming approach pretty much renders them redundant, in terms of downloadable sceneries.

Hey Nutty - Thrustmaster T16000 is great. Stick only version is less than $130 and has everything you need.

Thrustmaster just launched a line of new equipment based on the Airbus A320 family. Whether or not it fits inside your budget I'm not sure.

Some YT footage of Sydney from a beta tester flying an amphibian and landing next to Sydney Opera House. I can definitely see a big market for aftermarket landscapes still. The Opera House is modeled really nicely but there's no Sydney harbour bridge (surely a globally recognised structure) and Fort Denison is covered with trees! Look for the cruise ship crash too. Oh the humanity.

Looks bloody good though and seems to run smoothly.
