Team Changes

Scuderia Toro Rosso renamed as Scuderia AlphaTauri. The team will use the constructor name "AlphaTauri". The name is derived from Red Bull's AlphaTauri fashion brand.

Driver Changes

IN
Esteban Ocon [Renault]
Nicholas Latifi [Williams]

OUT
Nico Hülkenberg [Renault]
Robert Kubica [Williams]

Technical Regulation Changes

- In order to reduce the risk of punctures, the last 50 mm (2.0 in) of the front wing can no longer contain any metal.
- Brake ducts can no longer be outsourced and must be made and designed by the team.
- The amount of fuel that can be outside of the fuel tank has been reduced from 2 litres (3.5 imp pt) to 250 millilitres (0.44 imp pt).
- The level of driver aids at the start will also be decreased.

Sporting Regulation Changes

- Teams will be allowed to use one more MGU-K compared to 2019 to compensate for the increased demands of contesting 22 races.

- Drivers who participate in free practice sessions will be eligible for additional FIA Super Licence points. Any driver who completes a minimum 100 km (62 mi) during a free practice session will receive an additional Super Licence point on the condition that they do not commit a driving infraction. Drivers may only accrue ten Super Licence points per year from free practice sessions.

- The rules surrounding jump starts and the weighbridge have been relaxed with the race stewards now being able to hand out less severe punishments for missing the weighbridge and jump starts. Jump starts will now receive a 5 or 10 second race time penalty instead of a drive through or 10 second stop-go.

- Waving of the chequered flag returns after being replaced with lights in 2019. This is due to a light glitch at the Japanese Grand Prix meaning the race incorrectly ended one lap early.

Yep, just read that. Glad I got to the track today at least because I doubt it'll be happening tomorrow.

Formula 1
@F1
Formula 1 and the FIA have have been coordinating with all the relevant authorities on the next steps. Our priority is the safety of the fans, the teams and all personnel at the race.
I reckon they'll cancel it. Can you imagine the shitstorm they'll get if they don't and then they're the start of a major spread in Australia?

As keen as I am for the race, it's the right move. At the minimum it should go ahead without a crowd. Having tens of thousands of people mill about for several days, many of whom have flown in from all over the world, is the opposite of trying to contain global pandemic virus spread.

Officially Cancelled
Statement from the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC)

At 9am today the Australian Grand Prix Corporation was advised by Formula 1 of their intention to cancel all Formula 1 activity at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

In light of this decision and updated advice this morning from the Chief Health Officer of the Victorian Government’s Department of Human and Health Services, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation confirms the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is cancelled immediately.

Last night a member of the McLaren Racing team tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. A further seven individuals returned negative results, confirming that they do not have the COVID-19 virus.

Additionally, a ninth individual has been assessed and tested for the COVID-19 virus, with the results of this test pending. This individual is not associated with any Formula 1 team, the FIA or associated suppliers.

Our first priority is the safety of everyone including attendees, our personnel, all event partners and members of the local community.

Further information regarding refunds for ticket holders will be communicated in due course.

That horse has bolted. They let everyone into the country already! If in 2 weeks time the number of cases in Victoria spike above New South Wales in comparison. Currently 18 vs 64 respectively then there is a pretty good chance we will know why that has happened.

They should have put a stop to this 1-2 weeks ago. Not waited till everyone was queuing up at the gates at the 12th hour.

What did I say... farken idjiots for letting it get this far.

It was bad enough that VIC was already treating many current suffers from around the country, now we have just let a bunch of internationals come in & infect a huge crowd of others.

The difference between stopping large public gatherings and letting them go ahead with the Spanish Flu in 1918.

https://www.pnas.org/content/104/18/7582
The first cases of disease among civilians in Philadelphia were reported on September 17, 1918, but authorities downplayed their significance and allowed large public gatherings, notably a city-wide parade on September 28, 1918, to continue. School closures, bans on public gatherings, and other social distancing interventions were not implemented until October 3, when disease spread had already begun to overwhelm local medical and public health resources. In contrast, the first cases of disease among civilians in St. Louis were reported on October 5, and authorities moved rapidly to introduce a broad series of measures designed to promote social distancing, implementing these on October 7. The difference in response times between the two cities (≈14 days, when measured from the first reported cases) represents approximately three to five doubling times for an influenza epidemic. The costs of this delay appear to have been significant; by the time Philadelphia responded, it faced an epidemic considerably larger than the epidemic St. Louis faced.

It just annoys me that the whole shitfest was around who would have to pay.

Yes I understand that F1 is a business, but ultimately they should have made the decision a week ago, they saw what happened in Italy and they should have reacted accordingly.
But even if we forgive them around that, as soon as one of the McLaren staff came up positive, dont spend hours fighting over who blinks first and wears the bill, empower your staff to make the decision. Im lucky when I woke up at 5am and figured the writing was on the wall pull the plug on my flight. It saved me thousands in hotels and flights that I couldnt have refunded had I have left.

Ive actually really liked where Libity have taken F1, I think the more openness/online content ect.. has been fantastic, but they need to sort there shitout from the business and motorsport side. Start empowering the people you employee to make decisions and not this whole by committee shit.
