Team Changes

Scuderia Toro Rosso renamed as Scuderia AlphaTauri. The team will use the constructor name "AlphaTauri". The name is derived from Red Bull's AlphaTauri fashion brand.

Driver Changes

IN
Esteban Ocon [Renault]
Nicholas Latifi [Williams]

OUT
Nico Hülkenberg [Renault]
Robert Kubica [Williams]

Technical Regulation Changes

- In order to reduce the risk of punctures, the last 50 mm (2.0 in) of the front wing can no longer contain any metal.
- Brake ducts can no longer be outsourced and must be made and designed by the team.
- The amount of fuel that can be outside of the fuel tank has been reduced from 2 litres (3.5 imp pt) to 250 millilitres (0.44 imp pt).
- The level of driver aids at the start will also be decreased.

Sporting Regulation Changes

- Teams will be allowed to use one more MGU-K compared to 2019 to compensate for the increased demands of contesting 22 races.

- Drivers who participate in free practice sessions will be eligible for additional FIA Super Licence points. Any driver who completes a minimum 100 km (62 mi) during a free practice session will receive an additional Super Licence point on the condition that they do not commit a driving infraction. Drivers may only accrue ten Super Licence points per year from free practice sessions.

- The rules surrounding jump starts and the weighbridge have been relaxed with the race stewards now being able to hand out less severe punishments for missing the weighbridge and jump starts. Jump starts will now receive a 5 or 10 second race time penalty instead of a drive through or 10 second stop-go.

- Waving of the chequered flag returns after being replaced with lights in 2019. This is due to a light glitch at the Japanese Grand Prix meaning the race incorrectly ended one lap early.

Regulatory Changes

- Due to the lack of fans in attendance and COVID-19 social distancing measures there will not be a driver's parade or pre-race national anthem gathering.
- Fewer team personnel will be allowed on the grid pre-race (max 40 of the 80 allowed at each race).
- The pitman will close 20 mins before the start instead of 30.
- Cars will have to have their tyres fitted five minutes before the start, rather than three, and at that signal team personnel and equipment trolleys must commence leaving the grid.
- When the three minute signal is shown, no more than sixteen team personnel for each competitor are permitted on the grid.
- All drivers will be given the same tyre allocation, so teams will no longer choose how many sets of each compound their drivers will have for each weekend (two sets of hard, three of mediums, and eight softs).
- The podium presentation is likely to take place on the grid (not finalised yet).

Thanks Kev & not to put a negative spin on this but does anyone really care or see this season as a total write off already?
I am not even sure how I feel about it yet, I will watch this weekend then see what I think & feel after.
I think I am most disappointing in the fact the 2021 season will still be under the same specification of cars... :(

It's a good question Duke. I think I'll care if the racing is good. If not there's always sim racing to occupy me.

I agree everyone wants the new funky looking cars but I think This could be a decent season if it's more of a sprint. With fewer races people might have to push harder and go for moves that they might not try before because there won't be as many opportunities to make up for it later. I think it'll be a Merc v red bull fight. Not so sure Ferrari are going to be in this one.

I want to see Vettel go nuts and ignore all team orders and try and win every race.

I watched the absolutely mental 2011 Canadian GP on YouTube last week. I think it could be the best race I've ever seen, and not only due to happy memories of watching it with hundreds of people at Le Mans just after the 24 hour race had finished. A season of races like that and I'm definitely back on-board. :D

OK, that's not going to happen but the messed up season does add a bit of uncertainty to the whole show, so there might be some fun to be had.

I'd be happy to see him drive like he did in Russia at every race. It was like the Vettel of old.

It is going to be a shame if the knob wins it again, given it is a Mickey Mouse season at best. Doesnt really matter who wins it, they wont be seen as a true WC.

If you can find it anywhere (might be on youtube) Sky did a watchalong with Button and Captain Boring Paul De Resta whilst playing the race in real time (they cut out the 2hr red flag delay :) ). Was quite interesting. They were explaining how their race was going, what they were trying to do, tactics etc.

They've done about 5-6 races like that.

The press conference is weird :) You can only see their eyes! Especially odd not seeing DannyRic's big grin.

Merc were very sombre and BLM and equality and Hamilton said he had a cloth mask cos the paper ones go in the sea. Red Bull were all giggly and talking about sim racing!

Red Bull have lodged an official protest against a controversial and revolutionary steering system on Mercedes' 2020 Formula 1 car.

Red Bull allege that the so-called dual-axis steering system (DAS) breaks the rules on two counts.

These are that it constitutes a moveable aerodynamic device and that it is an adjustment to the suspension while the car is in motion.

I thought the FIA already cleared Merc's DAS for this year so RBR just being cry-babies again?

Red Bull protested but it has been rejected as they deem it a steering control, not suspension. They supposedly have their own system in development but it's not ready due to the covid work restrictions.

I heard it was more of a case of eeking out how the Merc system worked by seeking clarification so they can finialise their own system.

The new podium in F3 was good, still had the champagne, just weird seeing the drivers in masks!

Also, Aussie's 1 and 3, great stuff :D I didn't realize we had 5 Aussie's in F3 this year, so it's worth keeping an eye on that series.

What's with Toto's motorbike windscreen stuck to his face? Doesn't seem like it'd do much more than stopping bugs hitting him.

I really wasn't expecting such gaps given the stable rules. Ferrari especially. How have they got it so wrong?

They got caught cheating & while they may not have got an official penalty their results since speak volumes to what it was gaining them while flaunting the rules. :tilt:
