Someone tell me I am wrong thinking this is traditionally one of the most boring races on the calendar?

Spain and Monaco are the races I get least excited about watching. Monaco's dull for obvious reasons but I always figured there are very few surprises at Spain because they do so much testing there. They already know how to get the best out of the cars so spend the weekend pretty much stuck in their relative place. The race then just becomes an expanding concertina.

Some years I say this, hoping it'll tempt fate enough to provide a thriller. It doesn't seem to work.

I think Spain has the fewest winners from outside the front row. Something like 3 in the last 20+ years. That's all you need to know about how crap the layout is. What frustrates me the most is that the circuits don't re-profile corners or change layouts to help fix that.

Well that was unwatchable, glad I went to bed at lap 30, even then I couldn't get into it and fell asleep.

F1 is cooked, its going to be painful to watch till 2022 I fear.

Seemed like 3 cars went racing while the rest went tyre conserving.

That's exactly what I did. Recorded it then stuck it on fast forward while watching the order on the left hand side. On the few occasions the order changed (other than pit-stops), I stopped and watched that bit. I got through the whole race in about 15 minutes :D

Some entertaining midfield stuff between lap 30 and 45 but that seemed to be pretty much it.

My son is just starting to take an interest in F1 for the first time this season. I thought subjecting him to the Spanish GP might put him off for life.

But it is cool to stand on that bit of track (which you can do now) and imagine how fast they were going and try to fathom how on earth they got round it at that speed.

I took my dad to testing at Silverstone circa 2006 (he's never been before) when you could stand at the fence just in front of the bridge .... ah I have a video taken that day. If I remember rightly they were doing about 70mph at the chicane and 150 by the apex of bridge corner. It's an infeasibly short distance for that acceleration!

And after the cars went past the first time he turned to me and said...... I think I'll turn my hearing aid off :D

Yep, it was a great corner but not a great corner for spectators as you couldn't really get near it.

I haven't been to that many F1 tracks but the most impressive place I've ever seen an F1 car is going into Maggots, where the fence is quite close to the track. Breathtaking.
