AMD 500 series CPU and 6000 GPU

Post by norbs »

I am very keen on these news bits from AMD.

I could end up with a new Red system in the new year running 5900/6800XT on a 500 series mb. That looks like it would spank my current system.

AUD cpu prices
5950X 16C/32T $1249
5900X 12C/24T $859
5800X 8C/16T $699
5600X 6C/12T $469

The leaked numbers for the cpu's look like they'll be mega for gaming thanks to a big single threaded performance jump.

Need independent reviews, but it's looking like I'll be getting a 5800X with a 6800XT. Will decide on whether I stretch to a 5900X when we get full benchmarks next week.

If so it'll be my first non-nvidia graphics card since the voodoo2

Yep I'm patiently waiting for independent reviews but also feel the switch to the red team is coming, which for me will be since 2008 (LFS days).
I am just hoping the AMD drivers are much better than the last time I used them.

I've been holding off upgrading my 7700k and 1080 for this moment! Hopefully AMD finally steps up. I have been Nvidia for a long while now. Looking forward to the benchmarks!

I don't think I'll be swapping, mostly because of the driver issue's have had with my RX 570 rig. Nvidia feature set such as shadowplay are much better as well.

I will mostly likely upgrade my 7600k to a 5800X, like you Darren I'll be entertaining the idea of the 5900X, not sure I really need the extra cores but it might be worth the dollars to make the bigger leap and future proof a bit. Do I want to double my current core count or triple it :)

I'm not sure on the GPU side of things, even with a Reverb G2 I'm not sure if I need anything more than my 1080. Nvidia has historically had the advantage in DX11 for iRacing so if that still holds true I might go for a mid tier 3060 or something like that, it sounds like nvidia is readjusting their line up now that rdna 2 is announced so we'll see what they actually release.

If AMD have good availability of the 6000 series cards they'll likely make a bit of a dent in nividia market share, it sound like ampere availability still isn't going to be great for a while yet.

Given crypto is going berserk again (for now), you might find GPUs hard to come by.

6900XT has landed.

First time with an AMD GPU, so lets see how this goes.

Well, no game play yet, but mining is very good.

At current rates (and who the fuck knows what will happen to crytpo in the future) if I mine 6 hours a day it will pay for itself in about 1 year. Considering most mining happens during the day for me, and is paid for by solar, that alone is a solid return.

From all that I have read so far, the only place I wont see a big jump is Unreal based games. I hardly play ACC so it wont hurt too much.
