The nervousness about chargers being available at peak demand times is real, at least until the network gets better. His range estimations were low - they may both have a heavy foot. The key to efficiect driving is Eco mode, auto-regen and staying under 100kph as much as possible I've found with ours.

Yeah its just shit you need to drive like that, the waiting I think is one thing, like ok sure that sucks but if its evie or chargefox at least you can see if the charger is in use.. and with 150kw+ chargers cars roll through their quite quick.

My problem is reliability, it seems like its still all over the shop.
Chargefox also sent a good email around improving network quality which I hope they are serious about.


But I think the turning point is the the fuel sector getting onboard. Ampol are putting 150kw chargers in at a number of stations with a plan to grow, once you at least have 1-2 chargers at all the major brands stations, then it becomes trivial

There will surely be issues with people hogging chargers - leaving their car in the space while they go off shopping or something.

Maybe the next step is for the car to automatically go and park itself somewhere else when the charging's done...

One of the Chinese companies was looking at battery swap options. You have the battery in a detachable section under the car. You drive in, a robot lines up in the right place, removes the whole bottom section and then slots in a new fully charged battery and off you go.

The battery swap approach is used by some buses (primarily in Korea it seems at the moment) and being considered for long-distance trucking (battery weight is a big issue in payload). For cars, it would require a fair bit of standardisation and unlikely to be widespread. Would help a bit with charge time i suppose, but like going to the servo to swap an LPG cylinder and hoping they have full ones.

Nio offers BaaS (Battery as a Service) where you pay a monthly subscription (¥ 980, 208 AUD) and then swap out the battery when needed or go for a larger size if you are taking a long distance trip

Doing this at purchase saves you RMB 128,000 or 27k AUD off the purchase price

Not exactly EV related, but i got my Ioniq 5 ceramic coated 2 weeks ago and today was my first chance to wash it. I wouldn't have believed how easy it was if I hadn't done it. Every mark and bird crap just came off with the minimum of effort.

My Gerni chose this morning to get a broken handle/hose connection, so I washed with a normal hose nozzle and even with that the wetdown gor most of the dirt off. Quick soapy wash and rinse and dry off and it looks like new. Amazing.

All in all, quantum charging could lead to a 200x speedup over conventional batteries, which means that home charging times would be cut from about 10 hours to approximately 3 minutes.

In this scenario charging time at fast-charging stations would be reduced from about half an hour minutes to mere seconds.

That is assuming you have a battery that can fill your car.

Lot of Chinese companies getting in on the early electric action. Cheap and cheerful and don't seem that bad. One I've seen called the Ora Cat might do well if they can price it right. I think people are crying out a cheap simple electric commuter car and keep the fossil fuel one for weekends.
