They should have varied this race a little from last weekend. Essentially it's a carbon copy.

Would have been the perfect opportunity to debut the Qual race. Or make one of them longer.. Maybe 81 laps.

Vast majority of tracks just can't be run backwards because of where the run offs are. I think that's usually just wishful thinking.

I agree the sprint race would have been perfect there with multiple passing places and a short track. It's a shame there isn't much of an alternative layout at the ring. There is a cut through from the second straight to the esses near the end but that would probably make it a bit too short! The lap time would have been circa 30-40secs! :)

That is a tough one. Seen the video of it? His engineer stuffed him after others queue jumped in front of him.

But fuck me it looked bad.

Best Qual of the season, what a fantastic grid setup for the race.
Lol @ Max being a sook for going out first in the 2nd run. Much like Loowis would do. Image
Speaking of Loowis, was he crying at the end of Qual?
I thought Norris was gonna get Max too.
Go George, he finally did it. Stick with Williams mate, they are on the rise.
WTF Dan? My fears are becoming reality. I said too many who asked me at the time, that I thought he pulled the pin too early with Renault / Alpine.
Vettel's penalty was a given, it looked one of the most dangerous to date. The FIA need to look at some way to stop this as I fear someone is going to get seriously hurt if they don't.
Now to see if the softer tyres make the race any better compared to last weekend.

Agree about the queuing up at the last corner that they all do. Surely all the FIA need to do is state a minimum lap time they must do or maybe even do it by sectors to stop them gunning the start of the lap and having 20s in hand to slow down for the last corner again.

Lando was actually a car length or so ahead right up until the final corner. Fine margins!

*although isn't it "Still I rise"?

Decent race. I'm getting so bored of this Red Bull domination now though. When is another team going to challenge them?

Great to see Lando up there again and a bit of a shame that daft penalty probably cost him second place.

No idea what Kimi was doing on that last lap. Clipping a rear wheel like that could have caused a massive shunt. Wasn't it Kimi who hit somebody earlier in the year because he was doing something on his steering wheel?

Is there a record for most penalties in a race? That one must be up there. Was a fun one to watch.

I was hoping Ric would finish within 10 seconds of Perez but the Sainz pass put an end to that. Probably would have finished around the same place last race if not for that power issue.

His race pace seems to be ok. At Monaco he had the 3rd fastest lap but his qualifying is really off song at the moment.

So what do we think about the penalties?

I've never been a fan of the fact that you can just run someone off the road because the racing line goes that way. If there was a wall rather than a gravel trap you would have to give them space. If they're alongside I think they've earned the right to be there and be given track space to be on. If you dive up the inside of a corner the other driver can't just turn in on the line and expect you to go on to the grass on the inside so for me it's no different on the outside.

I dunno, there's plenty of cameras for stewards to see what happened and it's a high risk way to try to pull a penalty. The amount of overlap should come into play. In this race the contacts were wheel to wheel which surely means they were alongside enough to be owed some room.

We want more overtaking and we were denied 3 side by side battles which would surely have been more exciting to watch than having 1 car run off the track each time.
