Tour Down Under is back for 2023! Woot!
Men's stages were announced yesterday, with a few interesting surprises in there.
Saturday 14th Jan 2023 - Schwalbe Classic (1 hr + 1 lap)
Tuesday 17th Jan 2023 - Prologue (5.5 km)
Wednesday 18th Jan 2023 - Stage 1 - Tanunda - Tanunda (150.08 km)
Thursday 19th Jan 2023 - Stage 2 - Brighton - Victor Harbor (156 km)
Friday 20th Jan 2023 - Stage 3 - Norwood - Campbelltown (118 km)
Saturday 21 Jan 2023 - Stage 4 - Pt Willunga - Willunga Township (135 km)
Sunday 22 Jan 2023 - Stage 5 - Unley - Mt Lofty (114 km)
Prologue is an interesting addition. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. Might be a nice afternoon to set up a chair roadside and watch the action unfold during the day
Stage 1 - an extension of the course used in 2020. In 2020 i bemoaned that they weren't going up Menglers Hill. Now they're going up there 4 times :P
Stage 2 - similar to some previous years, but with a new start location at Brighton.
Stage 3 - this one i think is one of the most interesting. Norton Summit, Checker Hill and Corkscrew Road all in the one stage. Only problem for me is trying to work out where to go to watch as they all would be fantastic vantage points.
Stage 4 - modification of previous years, looping around McLaren Vale and Willunga, except not going up Willunga Hill. Will be interesting to see how that is received. New start location at Port Willunga
Stage 5 - New stage route and finish location. Takes in a big loop of the Adelaide hills and finishes at Mt Lofty (not quite at the summit, but anyway). will be interesting to see them race down from the summit each lap. They used it this year, but as a neutralised zone.
