Windows 7 to 11

Post by Bauer »

Morning gents. I’m way behind the times in hardware, software and brains.

I’m looking in to upgrading my gaming pc to win11. It seems I need to do 2 things in the bios before I can install

1 - uefi bootable. I found this in the bios.
2 - make TPM version 2.0

I found uefi ok but can’t find tpm anywhere. I updated to the latest bios while I was mucking around but the version was from 2016 so I’m thinking it may not support tpm and therefore not support windows 11 either?

Motherboard is H97M-G43 from msi.

Any thoughts? Or is it just too old for it?

Likely won't have TPM at that age I would guess, looking online I can't see it in specs anywhere.

I believe there was a way to trick Win 11 to install without it. But probably recommend you just upgrade to win 10 for now. No big benefit in forcing a win 11.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you finally have enough horsepower.

Yeah TPM is a hardware bit, not just a firmware thing so I've found.
at the least, you could upgrade just your motherboard? That may mean a new CPU depending on what's available...

I forced 11 onto my old hardware. Works fine, however games that use TPM for anticheat and antipiracy won't work. I pretty much only play a handful of games these days, but games like Valorant won't work without TPM.

Thanks guys

I didn’t realise it was a win11 thing. Might just go with win10 for now. Or might be time for an upgrade anyway. Was a new machine in 2015 so it has lasted well.
