I find it's a bit understeery if you push it on the road but still something you can chuck around a bit until the traction control kicks in (can't turn that off on mine)

I drove a Model Y Performance from the coast back up to Canberra recently. A bit of a sledgehammer. Crazy fast but also a bit disjointed for me. The torque was just insane - it's like inclines don't exist and it hangs on really well through corners too. Felt weird sitting a bit high with that much performance but I guess there's plenty of SUVs with that sort of bent these days. The engagement just wasn't quite there with the steering for me and the lack of real buttons to access things annoyed me greatly.

The Ioniq 5N looks like it could be more my thing but I don't have $120k do drop on a new car. And if I did it wouldn't be an electric Hyundai ha.

Smithcorp has the non N version. Its a fucking ripper car.

I think most of the big manufacturers have now got their initial investment costs back by selling expensive SUVs and the battery tech is trickling down to the more affordable end of the market. VW, Renault, Citroen and others have all announced much cheaper EVs for next year with 200+ mile ranges.

I reckon it'll be a boom year for EVs if they can keep to their promised prices as they'll become a lot more attractive to 'normal' people.

Yes MG dealer out of Launceston.
Came in under $50K for the 2nd highest tier.
Saved $1600.00 by suggesting we could get it from Hobart as a dealer there was offering a stamp duty saving / rebate of some sort.
The Boss of me is has been investigating this for the last year - she has EV feeds from most companies and sites on the socials.
Also subscribes to various comparison / EV review sites - she's across all that - which helps.
In the last 12 months we've done 3 hires of EV's in TAS / VIC.
Polestar 2 big - chunky - huge console between passenger / driver - large turning circle - just felt heavy. Loved the driver mini display
Tesla 3 - had this for 2 days - OK - big console - found the single centre screen distracting - absolute dirt magnet - everything was grubby after 10K Kms. Average drive - yes very zippy - but no real road feedback - bland - kinda lazy if going long distances.
BYD ATTO 3 for 4 days in VIC - OK but weird styling inside - again big console
(dont know why this annoys me but it does) had 2 recharges and found the range indicator unreliable - said we had 40% charge and 15% 30 mins later - could get caught out easily. Worst to drive high centre of gravity and very mushy.

Did 2 test drives in the MG (4 hours)- loved it - yes smaller interior but more accessible due to simple centre console - just felt like a nicer package - didn't feel sparse and space age like the Tesla - just felt like a normal slightly sporty coupe.
Also, if the later reviews are to be believed - its range is better in real life than advertised.
And better choices of home charge hub.

There is an EV show at Moruya this weekend, so i expect I will get to at least sit in a few of them.

From what I can see, the MG4 is the closest thing to the Kia Cerato it is replacing. Size wise.

Off for a test drive on Wednesday. I liked the look of it. Not as space aged as some of them, but for the price I wouldnt expect that.

Had an hour in it today. Was impressed. Didnt expect a small EV to drive as well. Granted I have only driven Smith's EV before, but this is a solid little car.

Now the dance with the dealer re price and trade in.

The ioniq5 is more car than we need. I want something similar size to the Kia it is replacing.

20k is a trip to the Maldives and change.

I like the Ioniq but haven’t even sat in one. I feel it’s too big for my needs. Feels like the next year or so will bring some players into the size I’m after. Kia ev2 or 3. Tesla 2 maybe. Think I’m after Kona size but don’t want a Kona.

The Iconiq5 is a ripper car. But it is a bit too big for what we need.

The Cerrato has 62k on it and is 6.5 years old. So it isnt like it gets a lot of use.

It seems like the MG4 is the ideal car for us.

Ive heard some horror stories around the non electric MG and quality/breakdowns, whats the feel around the electric MG's?

Some complaints about the MG4 that I have heard. Oil leaks from the "gearbox". Problems with the floor. Scratches all over the inside from cheap plastic. Climate control being wildly off the money as far as temps go. Slow tablet thing on the dash. Too small a display behind the wheel.

I wasnt impressed with the view out the back, its like looking through a letterbox. The fit out inside certainly isnt BMW quality, but neither is our Kia.

It has actually been more of a lesson on how much shit is out there on Youtube and forums to be honest. One guy complained about it being sluggish. 0-100 in 7.2 seconds isnt exactly sluggish in my books. Might not be hot hatch territory, but it feels brisk in it. Im not big on the looks of it, but some people rave about them. The bride likes it, so it makes it an easier sell, although I am not allowed volcanic orange. Booooo.

I’m on the other side of mg. It’s off our list as she doesn’t like the look of it. I am back on the Kona a bit having watched the new model release. I’ll look to lease too. Never done that before but the benefits seem to be there if I’m smart about it.
