The new Sauber C24
I dunno about you guys, but I find this car facinating...
The profile of the rear part of the car in particular...
1. The particualrly high sidepod intakes and the way they are using that to channel air out from under the car
2. I always find the front wing shape and I wonder why they chose that design... looks good though
3. The way the sidepods drop away so early and how the intakes are inclined so much
4. The exhaust pipe position is right next to where the engine is, to allow the shortest root for it to get out
5. I could go on
this car is looking REALLY mean. it could be a really great car, or it could be another Mclaren.
What do you guys think?

I wonder if the new design is to compensate for the new front wing rules.
Don't the new rules for 2005 dictate that the front wing must be higher off the ground than previous years? This means the flow of air over this wing, then down under and over the car is going to be radically different.
With the airducts now sitting higher over the bargeboards, combined with the profile receding away under the rear wing it might mean a less turbulent airflow over the rear of the car, thus resulting in better performance of the rear wing.
Also there appears their may be a flooring betwen the bottom of the bargeboards and the bottom of the side-pods. This would assist the flow of air under the car in that it can no longer rush out between the back of the bargeboards and the pods. This means the car will have more and faster air traveling under the vehicle thus reducing the effective body enduced downforce. This adjustment may also induce a more turbulant airflow in to the airducts themselves.
I bring up the issue of turbulant air in to the side pods as I recall a documentary I saw on the new Harley Davidson motor cycle. They had this problem where this was the first time they were putting a radiator on to the bike and the air was not flowing properly through the radiator as the air would split around the front wheel and escape out the sides, around the radiator. The solution they found was to create turbulance in the air which caused the air to spend more time in and around the radiator. I wonder if they are inducing the same trick here.
I think this new design of theirs may prove to be extremely grippy.

- When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

nice thoughts Montey
yeah this year they have made their own gearbox as opposed to using ferrari's so I hope it is relyable for them. I can see the next step would be to make their own engines and become a truely independant team. That would be great to see in f1, an independant team taking on the manufacturers
