Judging drifts

ok..after much discussion, i thought it would be best if we move it here.

Topic is wall contacts. I think if a person scrapes the wall, but continue's their original drift, it should be bonus points. It represents skill and control. The ability to make contact with something dangerous...but not go too far. It's similar to drifting while sitting on the door. There are inherent dangers and it takes great skill to do it, therefore should be rewarded.

The reason why it shouldn't be penalised is because if a person goes too fast, the contact with the wall should make then spin or change direction. That is the skill required. Not too much, but not too little.

post your thoughts

well, however you define the contact, as long as it doesn't change the original drift, it should be rewarded.
It's style i think. Changes vanilla to vanilla with chocolate flakes

I agree with scrape, but no force should be heading towards the wall. More guiding beside.

its hard to tell due to lag and what not wether its actually a tap or a full blast hit

slide / rub .. helps to not spin drifter.. / or keeps the nose pointing in the right direction

a tap shouldnt change the drift

what if it just scrapes past though

it is either.. hit .. or slide / rub / nudge

hit ... = bad..

slide / rub / nudge ... = usable

well in my opinion it takes more skill to stay off the walls and thnk it should be penalized. Coming on to the back straight section from the uphill, i'd say 7 out of 10 times i come flying out of there i rub the wall, not hard, just a love tap. But its not really intentional, its cos i've ran a little wide. I just think that its harder to stay off the walls and therefore i vote that it not be rewarded

i dont think it should be rewarded at all. on such a tight course like this, you could easily push purposely to tap the wall and gain lots of extra points over your competitor. do you think that is fair?

i remember discussing it last night in the server, and i came to the conclusion with a few other people that if you TAP the wall (ie. simply bounce off it, continuing in the same relative direction that you were heading), that nothing would happen. however, if you indirectly HIT the wall (ie. lose you direction, and most likely your drift also), you should be penalised.

but i dont personally feel that people should be rewarded for bouncing off the walls. if anything, you should be rewarded for making a perfect run without hitting anything.

Exactly is what i first said lol, it takes more skill to stay off the wall in this sort of course. And also on wobbly's point of lag... . yea well knowing my lag it would seem like i went through the wall lol.

Ok... I still believe it should be rewarded because wall scrapes means you took that extra risk to gain an extra reward...but due to latency problems we will not reward nor penalise. Any contact with the wall will not be penalised. But as always, any change in drift/spin due to contact with wall will be.

This problem can be solved by saving a replay of each run and do the judging based on the replay instead of judging on the fly.

problem is the lag will still be there. The replay is recorded locally so it wont make a difference how it's viewed
Also as discussed earlier, it will be too time consuming and not possible for this competition.

stan.. eg... i you are laggy in my game.. you are going to be laggy in my replay... also stan you dont need replay if you just worrie about your line and not the other car..

walls.. if you hit and it stops the drift / stops your motion = bad penalised

if you tap scrape slide nudge .. and continue the drift / stop from spinning and it continues the drift / keeps the nouse pointing in the right way while still drifting .. it is not going to be penalised be me
