PSU Fan Jamming

Post by QuadCam »

G'day guys...

I'm having a problem with my Power Supply Unit's fan jamming up,
obviously this is causing my PC to over-heat big time. :fall:

Does anybody have any tips/ideas on how I can dis-assemble
the fan and clean it?, as I have no idea how to pull them apart.

I've already had a PSU fan jam cost me big bucks in the past
when a PSU took the memory, motherboard and hard-drives
along with it when it blew up, so I'd hate for this to happen again.

Cheers...

I doubt you can really do much more than blow the dust off, beyond replacing it. There's not too many screws to open up your PSU, but be warned that this will void your warranty. A small dry paint brush isn't too bad for brushing away dust from computer parts. Good luck.

If the fan is beyond repair, you could possibly replace it depending on the connections used within your PSU (may need soldering).

i had one do this a while back. i doubt it could be fixed and in my opinion the PSU is something you don't want f*cking things about so i'd be replacing it asap

Be careful with opening the psu, these things can be still under power while switched off and unplugged. :eyepop:
If you still got warranty return it.

Dont buy a cheapie..

The PSU is THE most important bit in your PC. Get Zalman or Antec True Power.

Thanks for the tips and advice guys.

Unfortunately the 12 month warranty ran out 2 months ago,
so I guess a new PSU is on the cards. I paid $110 for the one I've
got now, I was expecting it to last a heck of a lot longer than this.
