And suddenly all the different interpretations come out. :D

The BBC was saying today that according to their lip-reader Materazzi called Zidane a liar and that he wished death on all his family, he finally told Zidane to go f**k himself.

How would they know? Surely they couldn't see him talking, because he still had his pants on!

Firstly, ITALIA, ITALIA, ITALIA!!!!! :trophy:

Secondly, Australia is a great sporting nation but very, very bad losers.

Thirdly, if a professional sportsman gets that upset because someone calls him
'names' then he deserves no respect........he'd be in tears if he got within 10 feet
of an Aussie cricket match....... :tilt:

Fourthly, a big  to FIFA for giving him Player of the Tournament! After shoving the 'FIFA Fair Play' motto down our throats for a month!

1st; well done
2nd; We weren't the only ones perplexed by some decisions
3rd; I guess AFL player's would "be in tears if [they] got within 10 feet of an Aussie cricket match", as they have racial vilification tribunal's who vindicate excessive reaction to racial 'sledging'
4th; Player of the Tournament is voted for by the press gallery, out of FIFA's hands, and most vote's were placed before the final.

 :D

I am still trying to understand the world ranking system. There is no way the US was ever 5th best in the world. THAT is just not possible at the moment. I could think of at least 10 teams that would be better than the US on a bad day.

Italy
England
Brazil
Argentina
Spain
Germany
Holland
France
Check Republic
Ukrain

I don't think we are bad losers, the whole nation was buzzing with our involvement in the cup so naturally that buzz turned into a groan when things took a wrong turn.

Australians arn't bad losers. They gernerally just refused to belive that others might be better. If they lose its because they didn't play well enough, not becuase the other team was better.

We can accept losing...it's HOW we lost that we're all furious about. The whole world (except perhaps Italy) knew it was bullshit.

It's not the fact that Australia lost, it's how they lost that annoyed everybody.
Had Italy scored legitimatley in normal or extra time to win the game, or won it in a penalty shootout, no-one would have had a problem with the result.
Fourthly, a big  to FIFA for giving him Player of the Tournament!
Alas, the recipiant of the award had already been decided by the time the incident occured. :-\

The FIFA World Ranking system has had a major shakeup since the World Cup, new ranking were releades a day or two ago.

http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/ ... 06,00.html

As you can see, USA has now plummeted to 16th in the World Ranking.
Some big movers in the due to the system shakeup...

Australia is now the highest ranked team in Asia, after jumping up 9 spots to 33rd, while the other qualifying teams from Asia all took a serios dive - Iran -24, S. Korea -27, Japan -31 and Saudia Arabia dropped an unbelieveable 47 positions to be 81st in the world! :eyepop:

The biggest surprise has to be Guinea - despite not qualifying for the World Cup, they've somehow managed to move up 27 positions in the World Ranking, to position 24, leapfrogging ahead of several WC qualifying nations, including Round of 16 participants Ghana and Ecuador.
:wtf:

The rankings are alittle weird,

I perfer these ones

There also appears to be a new system to assign points in the ranking system. The bonus of the new one is that it pretty much explains the whole system this time around versus the old system which practically no-one understood and had some unexplained variables.

http://www.fifa.com/en/mens/statistics/ ... ,3,00.html
http://www.fifa.com/documents/tournamen ... sion_E.pdf

Perhaps the new rankings look slightly wierd as they make the transition and some countries are suddenly decoupled from what the old system would rank them as.

That ELO looks interesting but it seems the new FIFA system has incorporated the basic principles of it.

The fallout from the Italian Seria A has hit

http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200607/s1687344.htm
Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina dropped to Seria B.

Insane to say the least, Its going to hammer all three of these clubs, especally Juve, who will loose a large number of its star players who will be using relagation clauses in contacts, or even just wanting out and not play in a lower division.
Saying that, they deserve it

Juventus... ...relegated to the Italian second division. Juventus was also deducted 30 points from the club's total for next season and stripped of its past two league titles.
Ouch.
AC Milan were handed a Serie A reprieve. AC Milan will stay in Serie A but will lose 15 points and will be kicked out of the Champions League.
Obviously paid more money to the judges :D

Oh I miss read that, to take 30 points from next season is big too.

Thats 10 wins, which means that they will be unlikely to finish top 3 and go back up, two years in b will be fark them hard

Well look what happened to Carlton due to not getting new players / having players leave, as part of there punishment for breaching player caps. To be honoust I dont know if Carlton will ever really recover, and the Juventus punishment was far far worse.

Am very pleased with this outcome.

Now maybe Newcastle United have some chance in hell of getting some decent players on the cheap. We're desperate!!!!

You blokes are just plain unlucky, any1 you do manage to get that's half decent gets injured.

I *almost* feel sorry for them :)

Does/did Cannavaro play for Juve? He's one you should splash the cash for no doubt.
