Songs that would still be a hit today...
...even though they are old.
that 80s videos site got me thinking about songs which would still work today without "modernising" them.
Blue Monday was the first one to spring to mind, but there are others.
List the songs you think would still work today.

- When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

Dont really agree blue monday would be a hit today... I mean i love the track personally, but i just dont feel it has the oomph to become a hit these days (even though most songs dont have oomph these days). Orgy's version of the song is in my opinion, one of few modernisations/covers that was done well.
i reckon if say hypothetically some old songs were actually released now instead of then, they would have to have a certain amount of gimmic behind them to succeed. One i feel would go alright is "turning japanese", its got that oddballness about it that would make it stand out. p.s. Incubus do a kick ass cover of this track..
hell this is a good question though, i mean surely there are some purely awesome old songwriters classics that would go well today. But i reckon only the more accoustic sounding ones would find a market with the pete murray demographic..lol.
Most old pop songs wouldnt stand a chance. While a lot of new songs have that old pop kinda sound, they have that extra production sound that just put the old recordings to shame.
I reckon maybe if blue monday was released now with modern day production i.e. cleaner/punchier beats it may stand a chance. but i still reckon it'd only appeal to a niche market. not the mainstream.
but really, what the fuck do i know, just my personal thoughts.
having said all that though, i reckon around 60% of Queens songs could be released now and make top 10.. but again, the quirkiness factor is what would get it there.
oh.. and..........meatloaf

I am having a lot of fun with youtube and older songs.
This is what I really miss these days. A song that takes almost 2 minutes before people start singing yet is still entertaining.
