And I find it funny that a spammer goes to the trouble of making the "@" in his email an "[at]" purely to avoid his own email being picked up by spam bots trawling the net for emails, and in turn getting spam delivered to it.

apparently they can get around it, we have had 5 sign up in the last week. Luckily we can pick them pretty easily if we get them before they start posting. Their profiles are odd, bad spelling, usually the country and flag don't match up, and they use the christmas red theme, that should give it away

Creating a script to fire the same reg info over a thousand times is not too difficult. Probably the signup script should either have a total ban after 10 tries, or the code should be more difficult to brute force?
by the way I thought you can disable a users posts after they've joined...maybe this feature is missing from phpBB?
