Warney retires

Post by Hz-Lab »

well, after this ashes series, Warney's calling it quits...

Personally i love to see champions go out on top, but i still reckon he's got a good 4 or so years of championism in him...

I thought he'd be around much longer, it's not like he has to run far :)

Would be a shame to see him go with much more in him.

Oh well, more time for sex I guess.

I suppose that the couple of serious shoulder injuries he had a while back haven't contributed to his longevity.

But full points to him for going out on top. As long as he promises to never, ever, ever attempt a comeback to international cricket.

I don't think Warne is the type to make a return, unfortunately this is it. :(

I also think he's got more in him, but if he feels the right to go, then it's his choice. He'll always be one of the best cricketers and i am so happy to have seen play and by far the best spin bowler the world has ever seen, he certainly changed the game.

I don't want to see either of them go although Warney would be worse. At least there's Stuart Clark who seems to be in a similar vein to McGrath and is doing quite well. Warney is a damn entertaining bowler. I'll get sick of watching what he can do with that ball. Unfortunately, with someone so good, it's just going to be near impossible to replace him.

Well it had to come sometime. I was supprised that he retired from St Kilda as well. I would have thought he would have kept going with the local club level stuff.

There'll be many more retirements coming soon.
In the Perth test Aus. had 2 players under 30y.o. while Eng. had only 2 players over 30y.o.

I think we could do with a more balanced team, youth/experience wise.
(but who's coming through the ranks?) :tilt:

Will he still retire if he gets no wickets in the next 2 tests?

To be honest, looking at warney the last year or so, he as been much more the "job" rather than the "pleasure" in his approach. He is bowling well, but he has been different all year.

I pondered that today. If he was still on 699, cricket australia will call for a whirlwind 3 test series against Bangladesh. He might end up on 750 then :)

Nah, he'll get the ones he wants in the remaining two tests, our batsmen will be queing up to be no. 700 ;). From a pommie point of view it'll be a shame to see him go. A legend as a bowler and an entertainer, regardless of anything that he's done or alleged to have done he's a character and any sport needs it's characters..... one of the reasons that F1 is sooooo boring

Onya Warney.....
