After kev's update i get every single thread on the fourm marked as unread.

yeah I had the same thing. just took a bit of searching manually to see when the last post was done on a thread of interest. now its back to normal after one visit.

I haven't done any updates since Dec 29th

I think our hosts changed the time on the server which flipped out the cookies. Try logging out, closing the browser, deleting the site cookie and logging back in again.
