GT4?

Post by SE1Z »

I'll be buying GT4 in my lunch break today.

Anyone got it yet?
Any good, does it live up to the hype?

Had a go of it at Hardly Normal... seems good, controller was buggered so couldn't really drive much. RUF Porsche sounded lame, although it was through a mono speaker, but it did sound ho hum like previous versions through mono speakers. From the little driving I did do it seems very familar but different - more realistic. I still dislike the way the cars push off walls when they contact them.

If I only I could of tried the ring, but with a buggered controller I didn't want to taint my first lap of it in GT4.

Not sure if and when I'll get it, one day I guess. :)

I'm seriously getting a ps2 for this one :) how does it go with the standard controller?

And this might be a silly question, but, is there a way of using a momo racing on the ps2? Being usb and all.. :hide: I've never owned a console before

Just fine I got all Silver & a few Golds (in the Licence tests) with the stock controller.

No you cannot use the previous Momo wheels with GT4 though you could with 3. The reason being is that Sony & Logitech did a deal to flog their new wheel which was designed specifically for GT4 and are trying to force users to buy it. Fuck em I say.

Momo racing won't work on PS2 because sony and logitech are greedy bastards. :(

Anyone know if PAL version supports HD? 1080i looks pretty good from the screenies I've seen and my mate has a 1600x1200 projector and it would look awesome on that if it was supported. :tilt:

Yeah it doesn't work... I know since I tried plugging my MOMO into my PS2, being usb and all ;) :D

GT series has always been ok with PS2 controller, the analog sticks make it better - just like playing with miniture joysticks. Plus the buttons for PS2 analog too, which is kinda cool.

I just had to laugh when I read reviews saying that it has no damage model and every car has around a 1m invisible forcefield that everything bounces off, and that there's no online play... But the nurburgring... I have to try that if I get to play it sometime.

Do you guys reckon its worth it to buy a PS2 just for this game? I have been thinking of getting an xbox...

As for S-video - you shouldn't get any dot crawl like you do with rca cables :)

It's a shit that Sony and Logitech went out of their way to make sure that wheels that worked perfectly well in earlier iterations don't work in this one - my Momo force worked fine in GT3.

I never considered a wheel to be important in any of the GT titles, besides, I had nowhere to mount one and am to lazy to build something that would add just extra cluster to our lounge room.

A wheel is only really good for the stupidly powerful rear drive cars and for stopping your thumbs from getting sore. :p

Meh, that's a sign of weakness! In GT2 my favourite drift car was a black Supra with 900+ hp using analog sticks to drive it :D

Its drifting speeds were insane :yikes:

But yeah, thumbs can hurt after a while.

when you start drifting the Toyota Truck/Ute/4Runner on Nurburgring and ending up sideways down the big long straight, then its fun :P....

Nah, overall I love it... Got my favorite car, if you dont know what it is shame on you! you all should know me by now :P

Do any of you guys have experience with using the slim tool and swap magic? Does it work with the new slim ps2's?

by the way, I got one of those ps2 + gt4 packs :D:D

Only prob is I can't do the career mode yet, as I didn't know I had to get a memory card.. and the dude in the shop didn't tell me. So, it's all arcade mode for the time being.

I am thinking of doing exactly the same thing BN. Where did you get yours from?

I am in Melbourne and I think you can get the bundle for $288 at KMart which is pretty good value. A memory card is about $40 I think, although you could probably get them for $25-30 off eBay. :)

I got mine from myer, $288.

I looked at EB and another electronics store and they were considerably more expensive.. EB also had some deal where you could trade in a ps2 and 3 games (iirc) to get the new pack for $199.. rip off..
